I think you're right to draw the distinction between limited editions, limited production runs and collabs. Whilst all 3 are there to introduce artificial scarcity in supply, LEs are by far the the most overt method. In contrast, collabs also serve to generate a bump of interest, and LPRs can be based on research into likely sales volumes (so brands don't get stuck holding stock).

I miss Omega doing limited editions. Instead, they have limited production. One of my favorite Omega limited editions is the Seamaster 25th Anniversary - Tantalum. This watch is made from 3 different metals - Titanium, Tantalum, and Sedna gold. The dial has the wavy pattern. It’s a stunning timepiece.

I prefer collaborations to limited editions. It has more meaning, especially if it is for a charity close to my heart.

I never paid attention to the fact that the limited edition speedy RJ mentioned was the first titaniun speedy professional. You learn new things all the time

While RJ was talking about the Apollo XI I was thinking "Yes, but on the X-33 bracelet", it's like he read my mind! He's right about the sort of repeated versions too - my wishlist has one of the Apollo XI 35th Anniversary, Mitsukoshi or Tokyo 2020 pandas and one of the Gemini IV 40th Anniversary or Tokyo 2020 white on blues, there's no reason to have effectively duplicates of the dial.

I really dig RJ. I was just wondering why the current constellation is so wrong and trying to love at least one version and his golf ball choice is a very good find. Then, about the Snoopy, he's on point thinking the latest one is gimmicky. It's pushed to the limit of the gimmick especially for something that you're suppose to earn, not just being able to buy.

Most recent limited for me was Defy Skykine Night Surfer. Awesome watch, for me the prize was a getting a defy skyline in titanium, since they don’t normally make one !

That Breitling looks like an Invicta. My son gave me an Invicta. That is one classy piece.

Limited editions / limited productions are great way to keep the public interested in the commodity. Doesn't matter the actual number of units, coz it will always be way less than the number of people who wear watches. So by that, not everyone will have the same limited watch. This makes it something unique and can allow bragging rights in some cases and in other cases, it will be very connected to the feelings and emotions of a group of people..🎉

I would love an episode on the constellation. I’ve always liked that watch and I’m curious why it was not more successful with integrated watch craze? We’ve got some true experts within your team, especially in this department so I’m curious if you guys did an episode on the constellation. What a cool shaped case it seems to have a timeless design. I suppose it’s a bargain and I should simply buy one, but I feel suspicious.

In theory, the dial design on RJ's Omega should make it run faster.

Who casually dropped the Mullet Atlas on the table?? I don’t mind limited editions, but I usually prefer the classics. The Speedy Tuesday 🐼 was amazing though. Perhaps I would be more into limited editions if I was filthy rich?

Considering that Ernie Els was sponsored from his earliest days in golf by Johan Rupert, who is akin to a father figure to him, it is really surprising that he was the Brand Ambassador of a Swatch brand!

Excellent podcast today. I do take issue, however, with RJs statement that those who don’t like the Snoopy are “threatened by a cartoon.” That’s like saying those who don’t want a dial featuring two people having sex are ”threatened by sex.” Not true. It’s all just a matter of subjective personal taste.

Limited editions ruin some brands for me, (Grand) Seiko is a great example. I wish they just refined their standard lineup instead of pumping out countless LM's.

Limited productions are the way to go for me. Limited editions and collabs don’t bother me since I just ignore them if I’m not interested. It’s all the pissing and moaning about them that annoy me.
