Cool video. The pie crust came out really well, better than an oven. I do like a Fray Bentos, they're around £1.50 here

Hi Greg, yes it did come out great, well the second one did. They are nearly 8$ here is Australia and I had to buy 2. Thanks for watching and commenting, cheers mate

not much meat in them, I wish they'd increase the price and give them more substance. I miss the old fray bentos.

Hi Peter, yes here in the uk we've got many versions, and they recently added content to the "traditional " versions.... up by 50 grams on the filling. They've been experimenting on fillings. With even a veggie pie and cheese an onion.

Hi Richard, It's a shame we don't have more options here, as they are a pretty decent pie. And a great option for camping. Cheers mate thanks for watching and commenting, cheers

@pete_review That was a fun one - the joys of dodging bees and burning the first one to a cinder! Dutch oven /slow cooker is tough to use at first but what a great tool to own.

What a great idea - I'm in Staffordshire England - we'll all be looking to save money on our gas and electric bills this winter and I can do these in the garden. Folks you can wash and re-use the empty tins for home made pies or toad in the hole. Thank you 😊

Thanks Di, glad you enjoyed the video, I made the video relating to camping but of course you can cook in a camp oven anytime, as a cheap meal they are quite expensive here normally retails around 9-10$. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, cheers

I quite miss the Beef & Mushroom Fray Bentos pies mate . I haven’t had one since they phased them out over 10 years ago here in Australia . You either like kidney , or you don’t & Pete , i can’t stand it ! I never attempted to bake one in a camp oven over coals though . Camp oven cooking is a fine art in itself , as you found out on your first attempt at the pie 😂 . Great looking pie on your second attempt though mate . That pastry is great when it rises & crisps up on the top 👍🏻 I wish they bought the beef & mushroom back to the shelves ! Great entertaining review there mate 😁

Hi mate, yes that what it cost me, these pies are very expensive here, I am sure they are not big sellers here in Australia. But if your going camping they might be worth it just for the fun of cooking it. Cheers mate

@pete_review3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yeah it took a bit of trial and one big error, the good thing about the cast iron it holds the heat, should work with the stainless steel, just be careful about making it to hot liked I learnt. Cheers pete

@@pete_review lol indeed... back to this pie and the likes of it, it amazes me that so much resource is out into a simple piece of dough and some (questionable-source) meat the metal tin namely, which gets tossed out after one single use, hopefully less with recycling these days
