I was in donghe during typhoon haikui last year and the damage was castrophic. Seen in josh's video,it seems like all the supposed to be uprooted trees were already uprooted back then so the damage seems insignificant compared to back then.

Great video!!! What was that in minute 9:10? A wall of downpour coming in?

Great shots as always. You could get use of an external microphone with a proper windbreaker though

Hi James. Into that video I'd add a flash flood coverage after making landfall a typhoon 🌀Flash floods after prolific amounts of rain especially in the higher terrain many times causes problems in local community. Good example is hurricane Helene which caused major flash flooding in southern Appalachian back in late September this year 🌊For me the hurricane from the southern Appalachians is fascinating meteorological stuff because these interactions tropical cyclones with upper level lows are incredible to watch and forecast !

Hey Matthew - it's a great suggestion but need to take into account a couple of things. I've done a lot of flood coverage from Taiwan in the past, mostly when storms are hitting the northern half of the island. In Kong-rey's case it hit a portion of the coast where flash flooding is less likely. Kong-rey also started easing off around sunset hence any flooding was happening after dark, deep in the mountains. And in Taiwan's case the terrain is so extreme it's impossible to get inland to hunt the flooding because it's just too dangerous or the roads are closed. If there's big flooding in the area I'm in I'll definitely cover it!

Kong-rey was category 4

I wouldn't call any typhoon as late season typhoon here in the western pacific. It never truly ends.
@brolymeng7946Ай бұрын
Yeah, this basin is very unpredictable like how it can produce strong late season storms or even that one time this basin managed to get it's earliest CAT 5 in 1958 in mid January, FREAKING MID JANUARY in the form of Typhoon Opthelia.

There may be another one coming in next week...😅

@@SxiegeRX it’s late season in relation to Taiwan, probably the latest major typhoon landfall on record for them. I’ve chased typhoons deep into December in the Philippines

Do you mainly just chase typhoons in the western pacific? Why weren’t you in Florida during hurricane Milton?
@EarthUncutTVАй бұрын
The U.S. is a very very crowded scene, I prefer to chase the storms which everyone else passes on.

Why did you choose chenggong as your location and not Hualien?
@EarthUncutTVАй бұрын
I go after the eyewall (and often the eye) and Chenggong was where I expected it to hit and make landfall (and it did.)

It was a category 4 typhoon, and the diameter was the largest in 30 years.
