They get treated actually better than most novice owners. Their vet care and checks are on time and outstanding, daily strict grooming, monitored diet fed with only the best and owned by arguably the most experienced horse owning organisation around. They also do get retired way before they are injured or old.

Where I live we have 12 storms all the time and I've been through 3 tornados. This kind of storm would be twice as hard for the guards not only do they have to help people who are use to wind storms and rain, but the tourist who haven't been around that kind of weather and were very nervous about it.

@@mollyjones4165 Apart from Horse Guards being right next to St. James Park, Green Park and the Buckingham Palace grounds, as well as Hyde Park, one of the biggest parks in the world, steps away from the that, with its own stables. I guess you are right. Stand for an hour on duty, ride back to their stables and have incredible care taken of them. Have regular holidays, personal farriers, saddlers, vets, and trainers, a massive bond with their active service solider/rider and mental stimulation. Of all the horses in the world, these are some of worst kept, I see your argument.

@@CuriousCabinet Horses like being outside. They do not care so much about being fussed over. They need a large grassy area with water for drinking. They need basic care, yes, but stalling is not basic care. A large grassy area is. As far as parks go, most around here are not public grazing for livestock. So, having a park near a stable does not mean much. They need an area that is theirs to frolic in and eat fresh greens.
