my Dad was a session musician in Los Angeles and played on the soundtrack for this movie. That is him vamping the guitar on this song.

Me too!!!! I agree. My boyfriend said he was really ugly. I couldn't believe it. So many adjectives could describe him. Like class, romantic, suave, debonair and there always be just one Fred Astaire. Beat it Tom whatever is going to play him. U must be nuts to play his bio.

Fred astaire was one of the most talented tap dancers that I've ever seen. The firecracker dance is my favorite dance of his. I think he could tap dance on water

I found this movie at random at walmart this past, and just watched it for the first time (in 2022) and absolutely loved it! This was my favorite dance from the movie, I thought it was just great how he timed his dancing/firework tosses to the beat, and I was all excited to show my mom, cuz she's a huge fan of older musicals like this. . . . and a few seconds into the dance she goes "wow, thats kind of annoying, with the fireworks. Those are loud" -___- and I'm like ok whatever I'll just show her the grande finale at the end, and she goes "Let me guess, he's going to dance in a bunch of explosions, that are even louder?! Don't tell me you actually liked this???" That's the last time I show her anything! For me personally, I thought the choreography here was amazing, and very creative.

Brilliant is an understatement. I watch this routine several times a year. It's just jaw dropping phenomenal.

Of all of Fred's dances, this is my favorite--I keep rewatching it, and still can't figure out how they synchronized the fireworks in the dance. It's three minutes of sheer dance artistry.
@SwiftFoxProductions4 жыл бұрын
Well, the ones that are the most synchronized are the ones that Fred is setting off himself. At the beginning he is using what are sometimes called "poppers", a type of small firework that simply requires you to either throw it on a hard surface or stomp on it to set it off. It's not until about 2 minutes into the dance that preset synchronized fireworks start to be used. (I'm, also, quite convinced that the ones at 2:58 are poppers as well that he's stepping on to set off). As for how they synchronized them, Fred Astaire was such a perfectionist I can imagine his timing was remarkably consistent. And if it wasn't, he certainly would have practiced until it was. I'm sure they planned out exactly when in the music the fireworks should be set off, in the same way you would for a percussion instrument.

I would be curious to know if all of those were pre-set squibs or not. There are a few sections that obviously are, you can see the arc of them in the floor. The majority of them do look like Fred throwing off firecrackers. I would love to see the choreography setup for this.
@SwiftFoxProductions4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, some of them are preset (mostly those at the end) but, the majority of them are just ordinary poppers. Even a few of them at the end (right before the "arc" of preset ones you mentioned) appear to be a line of poppers that Fred is stepping on to set them off.
@rockguitar20123 жыл бұрын
He writes about it a little bit in his autobiography. It's a mixture of lights that were rigged to go off, and actual firecrackers he threw
