There are several very fine versions of the piece out there. This is one of the most soulful I've heard and the first on clarinet. Usually on soprano or tenor sax. Anat Cohen is not familiar to me but I will seek out her music from here on.

One of my favorites written by Jimmy Rowles on piano and accompanied by Stan Getz on the album Stan Getz presents Jimmy Rowles, which is outstanding in every song played. A real classic all jazz lovers should possess. I stumbled upon this great version and was so happy that I did. Outstanding 👏💜🙏

I was fortunate to catch Jimmy Rowles periodically a few decades ago at LA SFV jazz supper clubs I use to frequent 'Often Jimmy would be playing with his daughter, Stacy Rowles on trumpet & Stacy sang beautifully as well -Jimmy worked with so many greats from Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Ella, Peggy Lee, Carmen, Tony Bennett, etc.. etc... incl. coaching a young Diana Krall & Jimmy worked with the best musicians on this planet as Jimmy was a Well seasoned perfectionist at his craft.....

It's lovely but by far the best version of this is by the unsurpassable genius of Stan Getz on sax and Bill Evans on piano, those two bring out the true beauty of this composition in my opinion.
@arise2945 Жыл бұрын
I'm very much a fan of that version, but 'by far' does a great injustice to the Getz version with the composer Jimmy Rowles himself on piano. Both tremendous recordings of a colossal tune.

Awesome interpretation. the sounds so calibrated, some Debussy air and it stays around creating an incomparable atmosphere of looking for more of the kind. anat's sound comes so naturally!

Superb. Only the performance by Getz and Rowles is more haunting.
@johnlindstrom99946 жыл бұрын
I reconsider. This performance is the most moving of the two. The interplay between Hersch and Cohen is utterly wonderful. It's what JAZZ DOES. Beauty moves between two human souls in the moment! So Touching!

There is also a great version of this song by the German saxophonist Gerd Dudek on his album S'matter, which is the first version I encountered, and the song has put the hook on me ever since.
