Between 2013 and 2017 we produced five programmes featuring Fred Howes talking about his life on the Ffestiniog Railway. Starting as a starry eyed train spotter and progressing to Permanent Way supremo. The programmes were made on locations up and down the FR and Fred was in conversation with Sophie Fardell; a longtime volunteer and PW professional. Much archive material was used to accompany the stories.
Originally released as DVDs (still available) each programme covers a different area and a different era.
Episode three carries on the story of the deviation ending at Tanygrisiau.

Rhwng 2013 a 2017 fe wnaethom gynhyrchu pum rhaglen yn cynnwys Fred Howes yn sôn am ei fywyd ar Reilffordd Ffestiniog. Gan ddechrau fel gwyliwr trên â llygaid serennog a symud ymlaen i oruchafiaeth Permanent Way. Gwnaethpwyd y rhaglenni ar leoliadau i fyny ac i lawr yr FR ac roedd Fred yn sgwrsio â Sophie Fardell; gwirfoddolwr hir-amser a gweithiwr proffesiynol PW. Defnyddiwyd llawer o ddeunydd archif i gyd-fynd â'r straeon.
Wedi'i rhyddhau'n wreiddiol fel DVDs (dal ar gael) mae pob rhaglen yn cwmpasu ardal wahanol ac oes wahanol.
Mae pennod tri yn mynd ymlaen â hanes y gwyriad yn dod i ben yn Nhanygrisiau.

40:27 Fantastic work…! You seem to have used Pandrol rail clamps back in ‘78…? Well, makes this Norwegian geek slightly (and childishly) proud… 😅

"I dug (Festiniog Adventure) out to look up some dates .... but I've forgotten them now". A world I'm all too familiar with!! I recall Brian Hollingworth's book (which I still have) mentioning the PW creeping up on deviationists every time their back was turned. I thought it a hell of a tribute at the time, as was his description of the trackwork as 'manicured'. The crane story about Cwmorthin Bridge stuck in my mind too. I always suspected the book should have read 'the 100 ton crane made the job just about possible'. I'm glad that, with the advent of "Y Chwarelwr", T-y-G now at least sees a couple of timetabled trains crossing most days.

When was the track lifted on the old route through the old tunnel? and who by? the railway or the power station?

I am sure I have seen a film, which I believe was called 'The Deviationists'.
