Knife-maker, martial artist, self-defense practitioner. I know a good variety of his knives. I'd say they're mostly hit or miss. They're either excellent for their intended purpose, or a waste of money.

I have 7 of his knives i like them they are not expensive for what they are, & from a smaller company is kinda interesting to me... I agree these knives are not all perfect out the box....👍

The friction was to keep it closed in the pocket mate. Cold Steel made one that opens the same way with friction closure also.

Superb video review on an obscure knife model from a living legend of innovative/intuitive knife design… Cheers from the States. Liked, subbed, and saved to folder. I’m gonna try to pick up a couple of these. Big fan of FP, got both his LaGriffe and Baby Bowie.

Dang... thats cool. Didn’t expect it to flip open balisong speed. If not faster. Also allows the reverse grip opening.

Interesting concept, I actually had planned on designing a larger (4" blade) single fold. Folding pocket knife with a 5" handle. I wonder if I could take aspects of the trifold knife to increase the blade length a bit. Although it's probably patented. My orginsl design is a camp style knife.

You can still manufacture a patented design, you just can't sell it- but this design isn't patented I don't believe- And that being said, even if it was, Fred Perrin does many collaborations and would probably be more than happy to do a partnership if you reached out.

You did a great job with that knife. I'm very much into polishing stuff as well, if you want to do steel blueing, the result you get will basically entirely depend on the quality of your polish work. For the final heat treatment I simply use the electric oven of my kitchen. Works like a charm, but you got to invest that extra ounce of elbow grease. The logic is simple, the price of a knife will go up enormously the more time a knife maker puts into perfectioning the finish. If on the other hand you buy a knife of a good design, that is built with precision and high quality material, for a moderate amount of money, and then put your own time, experience and dedication into giving it the perfect fit and finish, you end up with a true luxury item that is unique, beautiful and it works smoothly like it was made by angels in God Almighty's own workshop. You got that thing down to a T, man! I love it.

I do want to experiment with steel blueing both hot & cold it looks very interesting to me, i will get around to it one day. I agree a bit of elbow grease on a blade like this Tri-Folder makes a huge difference it went from a sticking unable to deploy as intended to opperating as smooth as silk it was well worth the effort.. Thanks

So if your right handed you pretty much can’t open it up right you have to open it upside down or pick axe grip I’d assume ?

Hi, is the micarta plate removable?
@JollyPeanut3 жыл бұрын
Yes but it is screwed on so it will leave two threaded holes in the stainless steel, you could put the screws back in and file them down flush or fill the threaded holes with silver solder or braze fill with brass rod but thats a fair bit of work easier to just find the version without the micarta...But then again it may be a fun challenge to fill the holes.

Did you have any difficulty removing the pivot screw? I cant get mine out for the life of me. Tried boiling it and everything, but it just wont come out.

Interesting video. For the information of you and your subscribers in Australia such a knife is illegal because it is defined as a flick knife. Even possessing a knife in a public place is illegal unless you can prove it's work related. Anyway thanks for your informative videos. 👍

So I hate to be the wet blanket, but gravity knives may be considered a switch blade in our state of The Banana Republic of Kaliforniastan. Best check out the laws my friend. I don't want you to end up in the pokey. If you do, I can watch those toys you "left" in your previous state. ;-)

Tough state. I miss it for a few reasons, but the knife laws are not one of them
