That’s one of the more badass mr rogers stories. But my favorite is still how he spoke before Congress about needing a machine to record live television so that families could sit down and watch his program at the logical 6-7 o’clock after everyone’s home and parents are there to explain the important issues and answer the questions that their children would have. Because he was discussing important issues. Like the assassination of a president.

I just finished watching the Tom Hanks movie "Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood" where someone says to his wife that Mr Rogers is a saint. The response was that he was no saint; he had a temper, etc. The end message was that it was his choice to react however he did. He was as human as any of us but he put in the work and effort to care about other people enough not to treat them as less than human. His message is missing with the younger generations who think only of themselves.

@@mortimerbrewster3671 St. Nicholas also had a temper, but today is St. Nicholas day so his generosity and love stuck. They both repented of their temper and thus were rightly on their way to being Saints (as that is the whole point, to repent of your sins to Christ and be forgiven).

As the parent of adult children, I thank God for this man. My kids learned good lessons from him that supported what I was teaching them. And what their Dad was teaching them. They made good choices and excellent grades. They grew into hardworking, compassionate adults. They became good people. Their father and I are so proud. We need more folks like Fred Rogers to inspire and teach, today. Children need those role models. When the movie "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood " came out, we invited our adult kids and their dates out to dinner and to see it. No surprise. They loved it. Trolley, singing and all. Every child should have something warm, caring and wholesome to cling to. This is how we'll change the world.

I echo the previous remarks... I had a rough childhood... Dad was an active alcoholic and Mom was verbally abusive, neurotic and emotionally unstable... I practically raised my younger sisters... Mr. Rogers made me feel like everything would somehow be okay...

as I was growing up, a lot of older people used to make fun of Mr Rogers. he would be the butt of many jokes. But for children, he was the oasis in the middle of a chaotic home life, he was the neighbor you could run to after school. as an adult, I am honored that I had a chance to "know" Him, as much as one can from tv. I miss him. until we meet in heaven, Mr Rogers!!!!

Ginger Bread, interesting point. I guess we are the adults now, and we knew Mr. Rogers. Watching him now, I react emotionally. I wonder if I had not “known” him as a child if I would react more like those adults you mentioned. I bet I would. He really got through to us.

Nothing written down, no teleprompters...he just says words from.his kind emotions. Natural message of truth. We need another Mr Rogers...and Steve from Blues Clues.

This guy was about as close to a living angel as I've ever seen.

His wife speaks in interviews, and when people call him a saint or angel she corrects them, she mentions that saints just are good and are saints, but that her husband worked hard every day at what he did, he worked tirelessly to be that good. So in my mind that makes him even more

Mr. Rogers had already lost a fair bit of mobility by this point in time, but he still found the strength to climb up on stage to greet his old friend. He did this without even bothering to contemplate the consequences on his joints, let alone the fact that he could easily have fallen and been badly injured. His care for others was so genuine that he gave absolutely no thought for himself.

you even see him stumble when he gets on stage.. just noticed

When we lost him some part of the spark of this nation's soul left with him. It's sad to think that even with all his teaching us all for so long how quickly his lessons were forgotten and we all turned into exactly what he taught us not to become.
