Years ago, I was on my way home from being in the Army. I had my uniform on and missed my connecting flight to fly home. Mr. Rodgers over heard me talking to the ticket agent and he offered to give me his ticket and he would take the next flight out. Long story short, he spoke to the airlines and someone cancelled and I got home. He was exactly like the person he was on televison, a kindhearted man.

True story: "I read a story once about Mr. Rogers that just cemented his total coolness. One day his car was stolen in broad daylight while parked on the street in Pittsburgh. The evening news reported that Mr. Rogers car had been stolen. The next day, it was back in the same spot with a note that said, “Sorry, we didn’t know it was yours.” ❤️ Mister Rogers forever

That’s one of the more badass mr rogers stories. But my favorite is still how he spoke before Congress about needing a machine to record live television so that families could sit down and watch his program at the logical 6-7 o’clock after everyone’s home and parents are there to explain the important issues and answer the questions that their children would have. Because he was discussing important issues. Like the assassination of a president.

I just finished watching the Tom Hanks movie "Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood" where someone says to his wife that Mr Rogers is a saint. The response was that he was no saint; he had a temper, etc. The end message was that it was his choice to react however he did. He was as human as any of us but he put in the work and effort to care about other people enough not to treat them as less than human. His message is missing with the younger generations who think only of themselves.

@@mortimerbrewster3671 St. Nicholas also had a temper, but today is St. Nicholas day so his generosity and love stuck. They both repented of their temper and thus were rightly on their way to being Saints (as that is the whole point, to repent of your sins to Christ and be forgiven).

Even at 64 yrs I miss him. As a 12 year old back in 1968 I watched secretly just to feel peaceful and cared for. My own parents were very short on praise and comfort. I was a street kid in Brooklyn N.Y. and was changing channels one afternoon soon after school and came across the start of Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood...watched the whole show and would watch him at least 2-3 times a week until 1971. After that I would catch him 3-4 times a month until 1975. I loved that man.

As a young parent, I was somewhat mystified that my kids were so crazy about MR. ROGER'S NEIGHBORHOOD. Yes, there were flashier shows on television. Cooler ones. But they adored his show. As the parent of adult children, I thank God for this man. My kids learned good lessons from him that supported what I was teaching them. And what their Dad was teaching them. They made good choices and excellent grades. They grew into hardworking, compassionate adults. They became good people. Their father and I are so proud. We need more folks like Fred Rogers to inspire and teach, today. Children need those role models. When the movie "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood " came out, we invited our adult kids and their dates out to dinner and to see it. No surprise. They loved it. Trolley, singing and all. Every child should have something warm, caring and wholesome to cling to. This is how we'll change the world.

He preached the TENETS of his religion - Christianity - which are based only on love and truth. Don’t put down the commenter because he used the word “Gospel” - he’s not trying to convert you, but the very things Mr. Rogers preached in fact WERE in the Gospel. .

I like to think I am a tough guy, I work in a profession where I see the worst in people and I become cynical and jaded. I feel like I don't have any emotions. But whenever I see Mr. Rogers give this speech I can't help but cry, because he was there for me to tell me I am special, to have feelings, and that I was loved when I didn't have a family because I was orphaned. The world lost a great person when he died.

I feel the world lost more when we lost him... Things started to get really bad.. -Bullying -Terrorism -Child Abuse -Drug alcohol abuse -Even people's understanding and caring went out like a candle. ...Mr Rogers was an important part that held us all together. Mr. Rogers had already lost a fair bit of mobility by this point in time, but he still found the strength to climb up on stage to greet his old friend. He did this without even bothering to contemplate the consequences on his joints, let alone the fact that he could easily have fallen and been badly injured. His care for others was so genuine that he gave absolutely no thought for himself.
