The 36th anniversary of 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers win and that fantastic Kirk Gibson game 1, 9th inning walk off home run. All kinds of ghosts on the baseball diamond in the month of October. Dodger Stadium still echoes with Vin Scully’s fantastic words in 1988, “High fly ball into right field, she is gone! In a year that has been improbable, the impossible has happened.” Freddie Freeman raising his right arm and bat into the air as his 10th inning walk off Grand Slam home run becomes the stuff of October legend. Triumphs and tragedy. We said good bye to Dodger great Fernando Valenzuela who died 10/22/24 on the eve of the World Series as Dodgers fans offered tributes and respect to the pitching legend. Los Angeles the City of Angels and a new angel, Fernando Valenzuela earns his wings in Blue Heaven. What a beautiful 2024 storied baseball season with a Dodgers team filled with magic and wonder. The 2024 Dodgers team playing with heart, grit, passion and never say die attitude even while pitching arms were being lost in the heat of summer. The Dodgers would go on to win the 2024 World Series 4 games to 1 and a championship parade in the City of Angels to honor the Dodgers on November 1, on the day of Fernando’s birthday. The baseball gods and ghosts are too kind and generous. Baseball is a timeless game and life changes as we mark the time with fathers playing catch with their sons. Everything changes with the years, but when we step on that baseball diamond, the years fall away and we are forever children playing America’s great game. We sit in baseball, stadium cathedrals, close our eyes and imagine how special October baseball is when we relive those glorious memories again. I think October ghosts are always around on the baseball diamond and remind us how special playoff baseball can be, when hopes are high and even in the autumn chill, a great moment is just waiting to happen.

Seeing Freddie with his son walking the bases was so heartwarming as well as having the tears start to flow. The family has been through so much this year that they deserved a World Series ring. After the scare he went through with his son, I feel like his perspective on life and playing a game changed. What would normally cause many players to fold under pressure in a situation like bases loaded, 2 outs, down a run, and in front of your home crowd didn't faze Freddie. Un-BELIEVE-able video. I thought the scenes of Mookie and the boys ecstatic with joy were touching...but as the father of a now-22 year old young man who's gone through serious medical issues requiring surgery, I held it together until the final scene with Freddie's son. clearly the absolute turning point in the 2024 World Series where every pitch, every at bat, every swing matters. Freddie proved how much it matters. 2 strikes, 2 outs, bottom of the 10th down in extra innings. That swing was a Yankee Killer to the max. Just think, if he misses it and strikes out, Yankees lead 1-0 in LA is a totally different series and momentum. It will be a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life since I was Dodgers fan since I was a kid. I am glad I was there at Dodgers Stadium for that historic moment.
