I’d like to work with Gibbs until he’s 60 - so long as he’s really with it and doesn’t pull a MF Doom, I can’t find that dude anywhere! I would also like to make an album with Pusha T (who appears on “Palmolive” along with Killer Mike) and this new rapper called Chris Crack from Chicago, he is insanely talented and we’re both like-minded. www.dazeddigital.com/music/article/45042/1/freddie-gibbs-madlib-bandana-new-album-2019-interview

I had the same reaction to this album that Ken had. It took 4-5 listens for me to fall in love with this project. I was coming off bumping "The plugs I met" non stop. I kinda compare Benny and Freddie/Madlib albums like Run the Jewels. Benny = Killer Mike. Hard hitting bars you listen to with that scrunched up face. Freddie/Madlib = El-P. Takes some effort to break down and appreciate the intricate beats and bars together. Both albums are top AOTY for me. Love the content guys keep it up!

Yup. Lived on 41st and Jefferson near Glen Park. Went to Melton Elementary & Bailey Middle and would've went to Lew Wallace but shit was wild over there and my mom wasn't with it so we moved over to Porter county with the white folks lol. Still ended up in GI every weekend still tho.

Right on. My grandparents grew up in Glen Park. 49th & Adams. My grandpa owned that Car paint shop on ridge road in glen park. They moved to Hobart. I was born and raised in Hobart. Graduated from IUN. Next time you’re in the region, you’re always welcome to come in the podcast. Myke was on a few months ago. I really related to your opinion and nostalgic feel to the track “situations”. It totally had that Gary/CCA/Grind Family/NWI Chicago feel to it. Great review to the rest of the DEHH crew. Keep it up! -Joe Riley

I agree with that statement in the beginning, yeah Madvillainy is a goat project but joints like Piñata and Bandana shows how much Madilb evolved and shows how well the chemistry between him & Freddie is. Freddie Gibbs can really channel himself into his beats

In my opinion, “Bandana” eclipsed “Piñata”, the problem with “Piñata” is it had way too many features and didn’t really allow Gangsta Gibbs to shine. “Bandana” showed off Gibbs technical skill and innovation of rap. I could tell he was enjoying this and enjoys Madlib constantly challenging him with beat switches and different cadences. My favorite tracks are: “Half Manne, Half Cocaine”, “Palmolive”, “Massage Seats”, “Fake Names”, “Situations” and “Cataracts”

Great review guys!! can't believe Ken didn't dig this lol smh, like C-Town said I thought it'd be Feefo.. but finally a review that said this is better than Pinata cuz it is, though Pinata has some of Freddie's best tracks ever! but yeah production wise its so experimental and more layered and just diverse & Freddie as an emcee, this is by far miles ahead of anything he's ever done lyrically, his flow I felt was a bit better and just the most unique & conscious he's ever been, he was touching on lots of real issues going on, def not just gangsta shit.. I think this is an insta classic, well Pinata took a lil while before it could be considered 1.. shout out to MadGibbs!!

@Antoine Groot Only issue with DOOM's case is he and Madlib already acknowledged trying to. So it never coming would just look like he is admitting it to himself. Madlib claimed he sent him beats already. Madlib has been operating at a very high level multiple years in a row now, looking at their catalogues, and output I doubt he is the one holding it up. the Pinata/Bandana/Montana trilogy as a whole has the chance to get rid of Madvillainy's shadow people still try to hold over them. I think DOOMSTARKS had the possibility as well but thats a whole nother bag we shouldnt open.

That's so stupid that people get mad at what equipment/technology a producer uses. It's about the ideas/creativity and quality of the fuckin' beat. With that said, I go back to Pinata way more than this.

Madlib probably originally sent the education beat to Kanye in 2016 with all those beat tapes and Kanye didn’t use it. Kanye then probably he to remake the beat that he denied from Madlib originally and he used it bonjour WHILE Freddie and Madlib had already used the beat in their own also but didn’t know Kanye remade the track. I get the feeling education was recorded before/ at the same time of bonjour but bonjour was released before education so it made it kinda awkward cuz Madlib originally made the beat.

It takes a couple of listen to really take it all in because of the complexity of the beats and rhymes, its just different then pinata and just as good pinata. It feels like a good extension to pinata, my only gripe for the album is it could have had a better closing song.
