Plus one for the pick help. Thanks! strumming with a light pick was too "slappy" and a thick pick was too "buzzy" before. But the method you shared is just the remedy.

Hi! Just wanted to mention that Johnny St Cyr did not play in Ellington s band..he played with both Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong but not Ellington.

Freddie used mostly 2 note chords and often only one note when playing with Basie, not 3 notes. He did not strum from his elbow as you demonstrate. On the contrary, he used his wrist. Please watch and listen to his videos before posting incorrect information. You owe it to your students as well. I can see your getting your information from the many books espousing the same 3 note chord theory.
