Beautifully sung. Apparently Freddie was asked to record this to test a company's equipment and he did so on the agreement that Queen could use the recording studio during downtime, helping Queen get another essential step up the ladder.

@XWKO THIS IS FREDDIE! Larry Lurex was the artist name used for a musical project by Trident Studios’ house engineer Robin Geoffrey Cable, in 1972. Cable enlisted singer Freddie Mercury from the band Queen to perform lead vocals on these tracks. (Queen were recording their debut album in Trident Studios at the time.) Mercury in turn suggested bringing his band-mates Roger Taylor and Brian May to add percussion, guitar and backing vocals to the recordings.

What I love about this one is that Freddie was influenced by the Beach Boys, he's clearly covering their version; not the original by The Ronetter/Spector.
@j.c7719 Жыл бұрын
The original was produced by Jeff Barry not Phil Spector, Spector wrote the song with Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. Spector recorded a version accompanying himself on piano and singing ‘I Can Hear Music’ as it was written and it is without a doubt the best version of that song. Freddie, quite frankly, could never. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZK7coOgZqh3npo

Clau Casas...Ironically Phoebe said as the end was near, all Freddie could say that he'd heard music in his head all of the time. Sadly, he wasn't able to get it down to paper as he didn't really read musical notes. He played mainly by ear despite having completed level IV piano training. It's a shame Brian or Deacy wasn't around his home more towards the end...they've could've gotten them written down for him.

Dr. Greg Malakoff This particular cover version by Freddie, Brian, & Roger was recorded simultaneously while they were recording their debut album. @JsRf135 жыл бұрын
I believe it was. he definitely could hit those registers, but this is more about the timbre of his voice. I've always felt this to be the truer of the two recordings, and it also isn't the first time they've sped his voice up in early recordings (Fairy Feller's Master Stroke chorus, for example)

Listen to Carl Wilson sing this classic, and immediately after listen to Mercury's version. Freddie seems to rush through the song as if he knows he's late for a flight and the taxi outside has been waiting 20 minutes. Lost in this version is the killer harmony the Beach Boys are famous for, and the background music here sounds very computerized. It's nice...but it's still the "Broadway Musical" version of a song that the Beach Boys will ALWAYS own....
