Much as we all adore Freddie and would like to find someone else to blame for his troubles, ultimately we are all responsible for the choices we make in life. If you prioritise serial sexual flings over cultivating true friendships, you're likely to end up somewhat lonely and dissatisfied. Not saying Freddie shouldn't have done anything he did, just that there are natural consequences for everything. I guess by the time of this interview, Freddie knew he had HIV/AIDS and would likely die if no cure was found in time, so to some extent he may have come to terms with that. But, IIRC, he'd predicted much earlier that he wouldn't 'make old bones'. He'd always envisaged himself like a shooting star, blazing bright, living his dreams to the full, with no intention of getting old and facing all the boring compromises and limitations of old age and slowly declining health. In the end, he did have to experience that facet of human life as his AIDS related health issues became more intrusive and no doubt painful. He met those challenges bravely and without fuss. We can see people's mistakes and unwise choices, including our own, without condemning the person. Life in this world, these bodies, is complicated and often hard, and we all make the best of it that we can. Let's love and support each other in any way we're able, through all the challenges of life, because maybe 'this could be heaven', for real, if we all did so.
