Better you than me with all that filtering in London Freddie. I certainly would not be playing music in any helmet I ever purchase either. Freddie, overtaking that van on the zebra crossing was illegal and incredibly dangerous, as you had no idea if there was someone on the crossing. Also, “filtering” down the inside of the lorry isn’t a good idea, again, you have no idea if there’s a pedestrian crossing between traffic. I know it’s London and “rules” are slightly different, but remember to “ride to arrive”. 👍

Was just about to comment on that myself. Triumph would not be impressed to receive a notice of intended prosecution in the post. As a 37 year police officer the consequences can be devastating. It happened to me once overtaking a stationary bus in London when a homeless man staggered out from in front of the bus, not pretty for me or him!

Freddie Bad Bad Bad no overtaking in the zig zag area of a Zebra crossing Give a £100 to the local Air Ambulance as punishment , you or anyone on that crossing could have needed it , you were totally blinded by the van , secondly the lorry you cut through if he had pulled away quickly you wouldn't have made it , Filtering is fine but it needs care and thought and never more than 20 mile per hour than the traffic speed this gives you good reaction time if anyone manoeuvres with out looking or as you know it happens moves to block you . from someone with 44 years of biking and working in road transport industries as a van ,lorry driver and London motorcycle courier .

Freddie. When filtering, it is illegal to overtake the last car before a pedestrian crossing, because it may be obscuring a pedestrian. While I’m on my pedestal, please think carefully about having your hearing sense obscured by music or whatever and being distracted by listening to something in your helmet. As vulnerable bikers, we need to be 110% aware of what’s going on around us. Excuse the preaching, I love the channel 😀😀😀

@@FreddieDobbs the same happened to my alfa-romeo mito, power steering electric error, my steering wheel got supper stiff before entering Blackwall tunnel and I got an error on the dashboard, after that it happened twice, battery changed and all good, until winter came one day - 2C degrees started car, after 2 minutes same error, so far no error but very dangerous that this happened while driving, doing some research it happens at low speed. Electric steering wheel they have a sensor, there is a company that can replace the chip on it instead of buying the whole column, but this needs to be done by a mechanic... Good luck

@FreddieDobbs EVs also throw up a lot of codes if the ancillary battery running a lot of the systems gives less than ideal voltage, same with stop start systems my Jazz hardly ever has the auto stop start kick in now the battery is past it's best and being an AGM (required for stop start) battery it's twice the price you think it should be. Could be the best £60 ,you ever spend, my advice is to keep batteries above 50% charge with either a ctek traffic light monitor or a blue tooth battery monitoring device fitted easy to know your battery needs attention then.

Best to keep your ears open.

Wow the warriors are out in force today eh! Almost like they haven't realised the thousands upon thousands of miles you've done Freddie?? There's nothing wrong with a bit of background music on the bike, nobody is talking about blasting ears like some people do in the car, but for long trips, why not? It just ups the enjoyment. As far as the actual intercom side Freddie, once you've had one, you'll never want to go back, it changed my enjoyment forever. We've just done a 1000 miles in Wales, 4 of us, all using senas, aside from the obvious added safety aspects in case of issues (and slight navigational errors) the general chat and banter just had us laughing and enjoying every single moment! I could not recommended it enough, I've ridden for 35 years now, this is the most fun I've ever had since our little group of 4 got hooked up on intercoms!

Bell makes a helmet that they partnered with Sena for a detachable SMH10 unit. I bought two for my girlfriend and I. The have bluetooth capability with intercom...which we don't use much. But being able to bluetooth into our phones to listen to music...or audiobooks for her...is fantastic. They were about $500 each for everything. Best feature is the unit detaches from the helmet to recharge. Sound is great if you use earplugs to block out wind noise. Highly recommended!!!!! BTW...love your videos! I'm a devoted Triumph rider on my third one...a 2023 Bonneville T120 Black. Love it! Great bike for getting around the Miami area. Not as exciting as riding in the UK but it is great to take it into the Florida Keys. Last year we visited the UK and intended to rent a bike for a month but the shop said due to the high theft they wanted us to change hotels to places that had locked garages. Couldn't change hotels at that late date so only rented the bike for a day...on which we got rained on all the way to Stonehenge. Wish we could rent a bike again for a longer period but I guess high theft is an issue there and we can't schedule our visit around hotels with locked garages.

My wife and I both ride and we have an intercom link. Which is a huge bonus as when riding as a pair or in a group as you have more than one set of eyes looking for hazards. I personally never listen to anything whilst riding as I don’t want the intrusion or the distraction

Yesterday I rode 7-miles along a country road on my freshly cleaned and polished Forty Eight, before being greeted with a flooded road. We’re talking at least a foot deep. I had two choices: Turn around and ride the 7-miles back, or ride into the water with the only certainty being that - if it made it through - my bike would be a whole lot filthier than when I set out. I paused for a moment before thinking “What would Freddie do?”. Needless to say, I waded the bike through the 200metres of floodwater and carried on the next 35-miles of a glorious ride. Cheers Freddie.

I broke down and got a Cardo just a few months ago. Originally it was just so I could hear turn by turn instructions from the GPS, but there are times I like hearing the music too. I've found there's also plenty of times I just leave the thing at home and enjoy being more present. It really is a different experience when you lose all the distractions.

When using an intercom, i would always choose a modern helmet I have a hjc v10 with a sena 30k, stylewise not ideal but its so much comfort Alternatively I‘m a fan of the arai concept x but its more pricey These modern helmets always have space for speeker (so i would install a System permanently) (Im not sure if the glamster has the Space too, but that would be the third helmet i would look into)

Regarding comms, myself, wife & daughter all have Sena SMH5's, We bought these 12 years ago & they continue to work. They are still available, but now regarded as entry level, they do what's required: intercom, phone & music. Simple to fit to any helmet, even the one your using Freddie.

Freddie go try some helmets on, I’ve owned numerous helmets in my many years of riding and I now gravitate to Shoei helmets. (Arai lids don’t fit my head shape very well). Last month I treated myself to a Shoei Neotec 3 (with built in sena comms), it’s a superb helmet, extremely comfortable, extremely quiet and I’ve no regrets at all. I only have an intercom so I can speak with my wife. We ride together and that’s only to warn each other of potential dangers, obstructions, cars, or to say which way to turn at a junction. I would not recommend listening to music or podcasts, concentrate on your riding. You needed someone with an intercom when you were filtering.. they could have warned you not to filter through that zebra crossing! All joking aside, be careful filtering like that Freddie, it’s not only illegal but incredibly dangerous. Doesn’t bare thinking about had someone been crossing.

Freddie, whichever helmet you go for, get a *_Cardo_* Comms system. A couple of manufacturers integrate a Cardo, I AGV is one. I have three Sena systems (because Comms companies don't/didn't play well with each other) and only the oldest one works as it should. The more modern ones that incorporate Mesh (e.g. Sena SRL 2/3 in Shoei helmets) have real problems, especially when trying to get SatNag directions while listening to something else. As a heads up, a lot of helmets that offer built in Comms use Sena units. I've been using Comms in various helmets for about 14 years now, so have had a while to test them out 😁 Nice progress through the traffic. Were you a "DR" in an earlier life?

I love your Fiat. Looks cute, but more importantly unbelievably reliable. And reliability is something I have never associated with Fiats or Italian vehicles in general. That Morocco trip sounds good. I've already had a modest Moroccan adventure in April this year. (Algeciras port is only 45 minutes from my place). And I have just returned from a European adventure (5,500 kms, Spain, France, Switzerland and Italy). However, another journey to Morocco??? I can hear the road calling me...... By the way, what did you think of the Triumph Speed 400?

Whatever helmet you choose, Freddie, do make sure it's homologated up to the latest standard ECE 22.06. While it's still perfectly legal to sell helmets to the old 22.05 spec, (and many retailers are offering large discounts to shift old stock), I would definitely recommend going for one that meets all the latest criteria. The old rules came in back in 2000, so go for 22.06.

Bike Shed = deep pockets. I commuted into London for 30 years. Filtering is an art. I always thought of it as a waiter in the 1920's working their way across a crowded dance floor whilst holding a tray of drinks above their head. It's all down to rhythm and flow.

Hi Freddie, I went to a big shop called Fowlers in Bristol. I asked them to let me try on the best helmets they had of every make, maybe 20 options. Shoei turned out to the best fit for my head so I then tried all they had in that brand. Bought a flip up one from them. Couple of years later Senna teamed up with shoei to provide a sound and voice system so I bought one of them on line. Fantastic, it was the shoei Neotech 2. I found out I didnt like listening to music or to be able to receive calls whilst riding. What I did like was Google maps on my phone giving me directions as I rode. Predominantly I was touring so perhaps thats why that option suited me. Either way you are right go try them all and find one to suit your needs.

Freddie, if you're looking for a new helmet, that looks the part and have some modern technology, maybe you should consider HJC V10. It costs about 260-300 pounds, it looks awesome in my opinion, and there are pockets for speakers and intercom incorporated. I personally use the old fashioned in-ear wired headphones. I can fit them inside my V10 no problem, no discomfort. The only problem is when I'm using my phone for navigation and I have it mounted on the Quad lock, the cable is flying all over on the wind, but I think what would solve this problem is...good ol' mp3 player I can stash in my pocket.

I must say I've been mightily impressed by those little Triumphs. It's not hard to see why they've sold over 50,000 in a year. If it's bringing more new riders to Triumph, then that's good for the brand, but if it's also bringing more new riders to motorcycling, then that's good for everyone on two wheels.

Had a 1200gs in London for six years with 1 or two trips to the continent each year. Absolute stupidity. Biggest you can have is Tiger 9 with no panniers! Keep the Triumph do your trips on her you’ll be more comfortable, no mechanical worries, decent pannier load out etc etc.

Hey Freddie you are moving away from your mantra of talking about motorcycles. Now your followers are subjected to adverts from people who give you money. This makes your content diluted as you are not being objective and independent. I noticed this when you had the Mutt 250. You raved about it but never mentioned the vibration while riding it on the motorway and how under powered it was. I am disappointed as I believed in you my friend.

When it comes to helmet audio I've grown to actually enjoy the tiny earbuds more than putting an actual full system headset into my helmets. I've got these micro earbuds that can fit in my ears and work both as speakers and ear plugs to avoid hearing the wind, and they're small enough to fit my helmets over them. Installing systems into my helmets with speakers is far more expensive, and at higher speeds the sound quality doesn't really matter when I'm also hearing so much wind. Bottom line for me is the ear buds are simpler, cheaper, and actually double as ear plugs to protect the ears from wind noise

The Schuberth helmets are good enough to be rebranded as BMW own and lids like the E1 and E2 for more adventure styling and C5 for road style - The flip design allows a much smaller neck aperture which will prevent a lot of wind noise. They are also prewired for comms systems so you don't have to pull the lining out to install (more importantly try and get the lining back in afterwards. They are the Metropolitan Police lid of choice. Oh yes and an internal tinted sun visorThey are brilliant and I only wish I had discovered them earlier.
