I just love it when you show beautiful little towns over in England Freddie. It’s just so nice. The more I look at that expensive Triumph, the more think it needs a little sport fairing. And then I think for that same price I could get a very nice fairly new Harley with a easy chair comfortable seat and big saddlebags. That just eats miles. But remember Freddie, whatever the cost of repairing the old Triumph is, it’s cheaper than both those options.

You are a great presenter and almost certainly an artist. You capture and express the essence of how you see the world around beautifully. But you don’t do technical. The “top of the engine” is a called a cylinder head. I think the job being done is that a Heli-Coil (or similar) is being inserted into your cylinder head. This involves the damaged thread being drilled out to an appropriate size and the hole being tapped (ie. threaded). An insert is then threaded into the cylinder head and locked into position. The thread on the inside of the new insert matches your spark plug’s thread. Repair done. The cost of the Heli-Coil itself is pennies. The cost of the machinery thousands and the skill of the engineers, priceless. Removing the head was a good idea as it is almost impossible to prevent swarf from the drilling and tapping process from getting into the engine. Just so long as the guy rebuilding your bike doesn’t have bits left over at the end you’ll be alright. That was a great video and I’m glad you enjoyed the Thruxton.
@FreddieDobbs Жыл бұрын
You’re right Trevor- my technical/mechanical knowledge is child-like😆 This is a fascinating insight regarding the work required, because a lot of people have said that it is a theoretically very cheap job… but the expertise required that you’ve highlighted- to do the job properly- is why I’m glad a pro’s doing this job for me. Thank you Trevor

You definitely produce a nice chill vibe motorbike channel. The true relaxing, decompressive nature of a good ride in the country side on some of today's and yesterday's classics. I'm currently breaking in my new 22 Z 650 RS in Emerald Green. I absolutely love it. You definitely played a part in my decision to choose this bike. I've been riding off and on since my first bike at 16 years of age on my 1971 cb 175 in gold and white. The Z 650 RS is my first brand new bike, what a joy.

Hi Freddie, I owned one of the early 900 Truxtons and due to my disability I swapped out the top yoke and fitted flat bars. This is the so called 'sit up and beg' riding position and made the bike very comfortable. It was fitted out with panniers and a tank bag and made a superb continental tourer, I regretted selling it but due to my excessive consumptions I got too big for it.

Great ride out and such lovely countryside. I think you've hit the nail on the head, the Truxton is very good at one thing, a beautiful bike but not something the majority of people can afford just to do that one thing. But that shows where Triumph are in the market, that they can afford to produce bikes for a minority audience.

But of all my bikes ,my go to is my Triumph 1050 Sport. It does nearly everything so well. Fast ton up riding, any bends as fast as you like, comfort. easy two up riding. All with ease. Changed my lower clip-ons on Friday (Lings Triumph of Watton) to standard risers (and I have a fairing). Rode 4.5 hrs on curvy roads back to Richmond (South West London) no wrist pain at all, perfectly fine to amble about on the smaller back roads at low speeds and was still fine on the M4 (70 something) into Richmond. For luggage I switch out my single seat with cowl for the Triumph comfort (pillion) seat and simply strap Kriega bags on the back. So there is some versatility, all depends on what style and distance of riding (Unlike my old GSA 1200 I can carry luggage but not two weeks worth and a tent 😂). Edging closer to being the perfect all rounder for me now. 🙏🤓😎

Great bike. Got one myself. Just did the 55k mile service on it this afternoon. Built like a tank. Near indestructible. Now about the "stealth," someone's got to tell me where today's bikers got the notion that making themself blend into the the pavement by painting everything black is a good idea. Y'all not have cars on the road? They claimed they never saw us as it was before we started painting everything in black or some drab military hue.

Well that made very pleasant viewing. I do understand your comment about stopping to look. In February I moved from St Albans, Hertfordshire, to a very picturesque part of Cambridgeshire. When I walk, or cycle, anywhere around here it also takes me 'twice as long to get there'; I don't think there is anywhere in the world that I'd rather be than in the English countryside. As for riding a motorcycle - I haven't ridden my Moto Guzzi V7ii for nearly two years because the roads around St Albans and surrounding areas have become too full of agressive, and impatient, (mainly) car drivers. The driving here is altogether more relaxed, so I'm thinking of trading the Guzzi in for a new Royal Enfield Classic 350 or, maybe, a used Bonneville. I'm almost seventy now, so Thruxtons etc are not for me these days. Good luck with your Bonneville, and I look forward to your adventures north of the border. I'm sure it will be fantastic. p.s. Don't forget 'Annette'. 😄
