We were in Germany 1958-1961 and I'll never forget those Ton Up boys and girls in full leathers, pudding bowl helmets, and goggles, riding BMW, Nsu, Dkw, Triumph, and BSA cafe motorcycles in every city in Europe. You see, our Dad, an Air Force captain, took us all over Europe on weekends and vacations. That experience led to a lifelong obsession with motorcycles that continues to this day!! I was under the impression that the fashion minded in their "smart suits" were mods and rode scooters and those on bikes were considered "rockers". The reason for the new model in part is to make it clear that it’s a 1200 (well 1170cc), so many people thought the R9T was a 900 it actually hurt sales, the R9T is supposed to reflect BMW’s 90th anniversary, which is a bit silly cos the play on words only works in English!, the German for ninety is nuenzig, anyway the new model has 12 in it to denote the engine size 🙂 I have an R9T racer it’s a beautiful machine that gets compliments wherever I go, good bike to ride as well 👍
