Frederic Malle The Night | Promise | Noir Espices

I don’t know what to say, cause I just bought the Out meaning “The night” by Frederick Malle today. I couldn’t walk away from it. It’s expensive, but so is life and it’s every moments? I am trying to justify it here, lol! On the other hand, I have “The Portrait of a Lady” by him also and it’s very similar. Except this one would be the Empress and the Portrait of a Lady is more of a Princess if you get my drift. So, yes. Bite me 😝😬😎 I would describe it as very dark and animallic but also extremely sensual and sophisticated. You have to smell it in person to really appreciate it’s true personality.

I really wanna try Promise. It seems very interesting. But I wanna ask about it’s performance and sillage and everything. Because I want something that is a true projecting monster. Promise is beautiful! Sooo good. It’s performance & sillage are really good, like the rest of Frederic Malle’s fragrances.... I have Portrait of a Lady (a beast), Carnal Flower, and Musc Ravageur...all strong perfumes. Promise is expensive, so get a sample & try it before you buy. Thanks for the compliment. 😊

If you still wondering about the performance well then yes promise is MASSIVE of a fragrance. BUT i gotta tell you that the character of the scent "in the air" even though it is strong, and intense, promise will be very smooth... it is magical when you get the whiff of it from your neck or clothes. So yeah it is soft but keeps on retaining it's power.. which gives you a really enjoyable and full scent bubble experience

Hey rena ... don't you find promise to be skanky-animalic in the drydown? (Post 2 hour mark) the castorium is really showing on my skin, and from the cap even (if i smelled it long enough the cypriol starts to move aside and the castorium really kicks in).. also weirdly I don't find the rose to be prominent enough for me to notice

I actually don’t mind the dry down. Perfume is very personable. Certain scents aren’t for everyone, and smell different on everyone. You seem very well-versed in scents and perfume notes.

Fragrance can smell different depending on the wearer skin's chemistry, BUT from what I noticed a lot of them doesn't seem far off in terms of them describing the notes and nuances, Such as dior homme intense for example from what i see with all the reviews doesn't go far off on to each other Now the things is with promise that spark my interest and uber curiosity is that from what i observe people can get quite a number of notes that I personally don't find as prominent or even at all! Maybe you find it rosy, maybe it's more resanous, maybe it's leathery etc And thats why i like to interact and discuss about the matter, to find out whether you pick up the funky-fecal-animalic tone of the scent that's to my nose is quite big too.. next in place after the cypriol... it all comes down for a more futher understanding study of the fragrance which for me is an another satisfaction in on it self 😂

Rena, Collecting frags without a doubt can get expensive,as I have been one since 2012. I have enjoyed the journey but it's almost time to retire. ☺! Definitely some interesting FM frags in your sample list,which I do not own. But I do own these by FM 1. Gerainium Pour Monsieur 2. Monsieur ------------------------------------------------------ If you've tried them,please share ur thoughts on them. Thanks for sharing. A2😉!

THELUVOFG I want a perfume where patchouli is the star & when I advised the FM rep of this they pointed me to Monsieur, which was REALLY nice. Very nice choice. 👌🏾 I don’t recall smelling Geranium Pour Monsieur; I’ll have to revisit the FM counter to take a wiff. I’m sure your collection is great.

I tried all the desert gems and... damn... I love The Night! The opening is repulsive but the dry down on me is very soft and smooth! (It's almost like you have to fight with the fragrance first but then you'll win an hour after!) The price though.......

Hey Rena, I'm just now getting up on FM. I was just at Split Scent website and FM has a new one I think. It called Superstition! I was hoping that you had reviewed it before I purchased a sample. If you do let me know what you think. Really like the blouse you have on too....where did you get? thanks, Your reviews really help me decide.

V H I don’t have a review on Superstition. Look at (fragrantica) the notes & see if you think you’d like it. Sampling really is the only way to see if you really like something. Check in your department stores before you buy online because they may have the perfumes and you can smell them without purchasing a sample. I believe I got the blouse at Express a year or two ago.

Night is in a another ballpark compared to MFK ouds...more rank/animalic which may mean more pure. I order samples from luckyscent.com and scentsplit.com. If you have a Neiman Marcus near you try them bc if they carry these you can smell them for free and possibly get a sample for free. My Neiman Marcus now sells them.
