In the last several years I've become a big fan of the New Zealand Symphony. Every recording I discover is fantastic, and this is definitely one of them.

Masterpiece! Delius's Paris is less an urban portrait and more a representation of the soul of a city, from its slow waking like a huge beast to the closing return to slumber. The first five minutes or so constitute one of the best of all orchestral openings, while the shifting moods throughout the remainder of the composition never fail to stimulate the listener. The NZSO perform to perfection under Fredman, Naxos's production finely engineered. Marvellous!

There are passages in this ( Between 4.00 and 5.00) that are very reminiscent oi Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead.
