I started this video in January 2021 as I wanted to learn my arpeggios. Every time I had enough to practise I paused it, practised, and.came back to it when I was ready for the next instalment. It's now October 28th, and I've finally reached the Mark Knopfler triads at the very end. Phew! 10 months of practise, and worth every minute. I am a far, far better player than I was back in January, and this video really gave me something to get stuck into during lockdown. Thank you, Stich. You are - without doubt - the clearest, most patient, most engaging guitar teacher in KZbin-land.

I knew pretty much most of this before. What I'd never known was how to use it all. Terrific tuition my friend! I'm sounding melodic all over the place now - and falling back to pentatonic scales/riffs to pull things together rather than handcuff me ( i.e. stuck on 5 notes in 5 positions ) I put different chord progressions (starting off looping with 1 chord, 2 chords then more) in my Band in a Box and started employing all this stuff. That thing about the seventh note always being 2 frets flat of the chord root note? - Pure gold! Think on the major arp and then just add the seventh as and when required below the root... something obvious I'd never been told.... You really are one of the very best guitar teachers on the net and maybe the best. Your comments show you really do remember what is was like to NOT know before you solved the puzzle. You did this to show everyone the route to how to master lead guitar? Mission accomplished! The rest is just working on it, but now I know 'what and when' I can play. Thanks a million Ian! (I think that's your prefix? lol) Jules

It's taking me a great deal of time because there is so much to get into the fingers/heart/brain so that it can come out fluidly. I think that I will look back on this class as essential in finally learning the tools of improvisation. The timing couldn't be better as I've just started playing lead guitar for a song-writer friend and have to come up with all the riffs, fills and solos. Daunting! My partner is a therapist and one of her clients on zoom heard me practicing (I made a backing track and worked on melodic motifs and 7th arpeggios) and she said I sounded great and she'd buy my CD. Great boost to my musical confidence! All thanks to you Stitch!

This is great! Something I would like to add for those starting out (a bit like me), when practicing arpeggio's, one of my old teachers taught me to always start and end on the 1 (root). So like in the D-shape, find the root on the D (4th) string and start there ascending up the 3rd, 2nd, and 1st string, and when descending back, when you pass your original root note and go to the 5th and 6th strings, ascend back up until you again hit, and stop at, your original root note. Same for any shapes where the 1 is on the A string. For me, I know all the shapes, but I could never work out what any of them meant because I was always just starting the pattern on the "1st note" on the 6th string. Once I understood where the roots were, and I started and ended on them, I could now actually HEAR the chord tones. When you start on the 6th or 4th or b7th, etc of a scale, it was very hard for me to tie in what I was looking at/for, what I was playing, and what I was trying to listen for. Especially when it got into the other modes and shapes like b7 patterns. Some patterns of different scales/modes are exactly the same as a pattern from a difference scale/mode, so if you always just start on the "1st note" on the 6th string, it might be difficult to discern what scale/pattern you're actually trying to play. Hope that wasn't too confusing - just trying to help! Good luck with your journey, everyone!

I played piano for around 15 years and I'm still decent at it. But I started learning guitar recently, maybe 6 months ago and I love it so much. It's a bit easier since I know music theory and all the scales/chords/progressions, but guitar still is a very different instrument and I'm basically doing it all from scratch when it comes to playing. A lot of hard work ahead, but I'm really excited, spending hours practicing each day.

3 months ago I first saw this I’ve been chipping away at it, I understand how to navigate with the caged chord system now. Now working on the soloing aspect

Thàñkyou I had the epidifini as I went through it with you. I've looked at the caged system and knew it was all there but I couldn't get it all together seeing the big picture. But it's so good when you do I can do this if I can count to twelve. Most of iits not even that long that's the maximum. Anyway the caged system came alive it was great it's got everything like in your pyramid right up to lead and melody. And chords and bass line to. All in one two hour master. Class thankyou your in my Sony Bravia library and I'm going to crack theory with the caged method. It's the whole of music thàñkyou brother your the teacher who put it all together for me. Even Steve Stien didn't get that done but I can go back after working on your master class until it's done and down. Really happy thàñkyou so much it's the keys to music and where on the neck. I've got books with all the chord tones in it's great information well presented and was the next lesson in my guitar playing . It's going to now begin after so many years of banging my head against a brick wall. Really has helped to do some theory and this is perfect. Can't believe you did all that in two hours was it really only two hours . What a great apifany . So helpful. It's exactly what I m looking for. Now I understand . Had to go the last step to tie it all together. None of it was waisted time. Can you do circles of fiths and what they are.

This is a remarkable lesson that covers a huge part of what is needed to progress from "playing the guitar" to REALLY playing the guitar. The information and explanation of the full arpegios is extremely useful and surprisingly difficult to find elsewhere - believe me, I've been looking. My belief is that this will be a 2 hour lesson that leads to years of learning : ) Thank you, Ian.

I have literally learned more in two days watching the Stitched Method than I did in my first twenty years of playing guitar. This playlist of videos has unlocked my playing. Just using the very basics of what I’ve learned in the videos, I have come up with countless licks and riffs that I would’ve struggled to come up with before.

64 years old and started gigging a couple years ago. I've heard teachers say that arpeggios are important, but never found a practical way to incorporate them into my practice. Thanks.
