Does the letter “a” on the word “that” pronounce with æ sound or a sound? Hope you’ll answer this question. Anyway, thank you so much for putting this knowledge on youtube for us!
@SpeechModification2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, we do have a sound for the "a" in "that." If the word is stressed, we use /æ/ like "cat." So, in a sentence like "I'll have that one," the word would be stressed and have a clear vowel. In many other cases, the word "that" will be unstressed and have a reduced vowel. It might sound closer to /ɛ/ or /ɪ/, or almost no vowel sound at all. Great question, I can talk about this in a future video.
@telecaster99882 жыл бұрын
@@SpeechModification thank you so much for your response! It’d be great if you could make a dedicated video for the word “that” by itself. Actually, i have a difficulty pronouncing “th” with “æ” on stressed “that”. Hope you can cover this problem specifically on your next video. Anyway, Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it!

Teacher, can I drop the h sound in hafta by saying "I'd afta" linking the d sound with the a sound. Is that possible?? Or Do I have always to pronounce the h sound in this case? Tks a bunch in advance
@SpeechModification3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can drop the /h/ in that situation.

Is the "ve" in " love" same as 've" in have"?
@SpeechModification2 жыл бұрын
Yes, both say the /v/ sound. But I think in the case of "have to" vs. "love to," the /v/ in "have to" is more likely to become an /f/, where the /v/ in "love to" may be more likely to stay /v/.

Maybe it feels strange to say the "I'd" so you are adding a sound. Think of "I'd" as "eyed" and see if that helps you.
