Ah yes, vacuum driven wipers, a way to guarantee that you won't see anything whenever you go up steep hills in the rain
@josephgaviotaАй бұрын
I'm old enough to have suffered this exact situation. Wide open throttle on my gutless '55 Chevy pickup, then no choice but let up on the throttle (loosing my momentum), but getting a few quick swipes of the wipers.

Robert Shayne aka Inspector Henderson isn't it?
@fromthesidelines5 жыл бұрын
YES! This was two years before he earned a contract with Warner Bros.(through 1946). He later freelanced at other studios, and appeared in "THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN"....and also appeared in other industrial films.

Why, if they invented power-assisted shifting, why not a power-assisted clutch? Power brakes, using the same concept, came out in the 1950s.
@straightpipediesel2 жыл бұрын
They do. Older Toyota Land Cruisers and some Nissan pickups have vacuum assisted clutches. Some heavy trucks use air from the air brakes. They've even designed them for motorcycles, since you have to use your left hand.

Ah...men with cool hats and cars. We had electric motors...why not use that ? 6-volts not good and generator output poor at low speeds.
@michaelplunkett8059 Жыл бұрын
Vacuum systems were much cheaper. No motor needed, just simple air valves and a hose. Mercedes stuck with vacuum door locks decades after Detroit went electric.

The sky is blue because of all the dust up there? And there was me thinking it was light passing through the Nitrogen molecules! Silly me! Thanks 1940.
@straightpipediesel2 жыл бұрын
You're wrong too. It's blue because of scattering from a combination of gasses (both O2 and N2) and aerosols, including dust, water and ice crystals, and the sensitivity of human vision.

@@straightpipediesel There's only one way you could get a like that quickly on such an obscure topic like this and that is by thumbing up your own comment. Pathetic!
