How easy (for you) and how beautiful. Those old pictures are lovely. I happen to like Oriental paintings/pictures also and will be using these free pics in order to create high-end prints. Thank you.

I also am enamored with Oriental designs. I was under the understanding that those little red marks that you removed are actually the original artist's signature.

Thanks for the video. Question: Do you have to alter the public domain image to legally use it on a Shopify store?
@craftystax Жыл бұрын
Great question and no, you do not need to modify the image. You could use all of these just as they are - they are in the public domain which means there are no restrictions on use (basically, the public, which includes you and me, owns the image).

I love the images you showed in the video. Since they are in the public domain, can I modify them by manually tracing them and turn it into line art images that can be used for coloring books? I see so many coloring pages of the "old masters" (Van Gogh, Mona Lisa, Vermeer and more) that I think it is maybe acceptable to trace and turn these images into coloring pages. I would appreciate your take on this?
@craftystax3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are exactly right - I think these images would be perfect to run through Inkscape (or other vector software) and do a coloring book - awesome idea!

@@craftystax Thank you for your quick reply. I love Inkscape and use it a lot to manually trace images with the Bezier pen. Thank you again for introducing us to all these wonderful domain images that we can use to build an online business. Stay well and stay healthy.

Thanks for the vids. My question really, is what if I wanna put some annotation on the images in photoshop For eg, the origin, the author, century etc. Can I do that. My purpose is for commercial. In light of the fact that it is not my work,will doing that give it some kind of commercial advantage. What do you think 🤔
@craftystax3 жыл бұрын
Yes I have done that with public domain images. For example, a picture of the Mona Lisa and then under it is the words "Mona Lisa" and the artist and the years of life (or year of publication). Some people like it and I definitely think it can be a good strategy to differentiate yourself from the competition.

can one watercolour the free domain photo, with or without making changes. Since I don't have photoshop, can it be uploaded to Procreate? I actually like oriental art and paint my own ideas, but the photo you select are beautiful and really enjoyed how you recreated your own art to print.
@craftystax3 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely - Procreate, Photopea, Inkscape, Affinity Photo, Canva - the sky's the limit. Basically if you can modify it in some way, it becomes "yours" and then you can have an easy time of making a series (which usually helps sales).

I have run into some images after clicking on Public Domain on Rawpixel that says - (Editorial use only) - Even though they are Public Domain - they cant be used commercially.

@craftystax2 жыл бұрын
Hey there - these are just free images, so you can use them in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Illustrator is primarily a vector program so you can use the images, but you would probably be better off with Photoshop (or another graphics designs program, not necessarily a vector program). Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for all of the information you share! I have been watching many of them because they're so full of great information! Could you please help in clarifying whether all public domain images have to be edited in some way first before using it for commercial use? I thought that any image that's Public Domain (such as the images in rawpixels PD group) could be used as is. Would any edit do no matter how small or does it have to be drastically changed from its original? Also, do I ever have to state an artists name anywhere in my Etsy listing?
@craftystax2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Great questions: 1. Public domain means you can do whatever you want with it. You could (legally) sell it as is. The downsides to this is that a) people may not want to buy it, because they can get the same image for free if they look hard enough and b) if you list the design "as is" on a site like Redbubble, and someone else already uploaded the same (unaltered) image, then you could get a copyright strike (because from Redbubble's point of view, you copied the same image as someone else already on Redbubble). So I typically preach to change the image. If you are selling your own t-shirts on your own website, then it doesn't matter if you have the exact same image as 30 other people. They can't do anything about it. 2. You don't have to state the artists name. I may mention it if I think it will help sell the design. Hope that helps!

I have not seen a bundle option for download on Rawpixel - that site is more of a virtual museum where each image is high-resolution and available for download (but one at a time).

Hi, can we use Rawpixel images that are royalty free and modify them like with your public domain images? Thanks
@craftystax3 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly - the public domain images are copyright free - you can do whatever you like with them. I just make sure to remember where I grabbed the image in case someone (like Redbubble) fields a claim on copyright (so you can prove it's public domain). Hope that helps!
