It is great to see Shawn Dell Joyce. The pastel is beautiful! Adding a bird to a painting is fantastic. I added one to one of my paintings recently. I enjoyed the wonderful presentation.

Beautiful pastel but I think that bird in flight is still too big …and lining it up with the bird in the water seems a bit too symmetrical!

Surely pumice and marble (calcium carbonate) are fillers, not binders? I would imagine some form of gum would be the binder and I suppose oil in oil pastels? It would not help beginners to be put wrong from the start with incorrect information. For us to understand and stay safe with the materials we use, we need correct information as to their ingredients. Personally, I would encourage people to experiment at mark making themselves, to discover what does and does not work. Isn't that how artists learn best? Thanks. I did learn some things, funnily enough, not what I expected.

Where do you study birds?
@payntpot76236 ай бұрын
In the sky, perhaps? Go to the beach, or the local dump for seagulls. Watch pigeons in a city scape and sparrows. Go to swamps and marshes. Find a river. Go to a newly ploughed field. Birds surround us, be observant and you will learn about them.

Historically a lot of artists used taxidermy as models. Often from local museums.

Not a fan of transferring a photo. I suppose it's fine in illustration...
@maitev-p95826 ай бұрын
My understanding is that she transfered her own drawing of the bird, not a photo. If you create the sketch or drawing to be transferred, is it as meritorious as drawing directly?
