These are very good exercises. I'm working to keep my index finger from pointing straight up while fretting with other fingers and strengthening the pinkie from needing an assist from the ring finger.

Looks easy with spider fingers, I have very small hands and short fingers. How do I get my fingers to learn to space them selfs on the frets without muting strings?

For example, my pinky finger is shorter than the neck is wide when holding the banjo.

@@EtherealProject3D It just takes practice and figuring out how to make it work with your particular hand. My hand isn't large either and my pinky definitely isn't longer than the width banjo neck. You'll need to practice angling your wrist and angling your fingers so that you're not muting the other strings. Your hand will get stronger over time so keep practicing and don't give up. - Mike

I have short fat fingers too and that's the biggest thing that keeps me from playing for any length of time. What I need is a banjo with 2 strings that sounds like one with 5:-)

Keep practicing, your hand will get stronger over time. People with all different size hands play the banjo so don't give up. - Mike
