I remember my grandma playing this song and telling me “listen here billy, when I die I want you to remember me not for how I am now(on her death bed due to cancer) but how we used to listen to this song all the time, and when the solo comes up I want you to rock ur little heart out like we did in the living room before, and know I’ll be playing the air guitar with you every time! This was my father's favorite song. He died when I was nine years old, and he was only 35. He had been in pain for many years and deserved so much better. To this day I cry every time I here this song. It is so bittersweet for me. It reminds me of great times with my dad, and also how he is now free as a bird. It has been 13 years but I still miss him every day and this song always helps me feel like he is a little closer.

RIP Ronnie Van Zandt. Who knew he would die before age 30. He was 29 and died in a plane crash that killed several others, including the pilot and co-pilots. 20 people on the private chartered plane survived the crash. October 17, 1977 en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana just outside Gillsburg, Missouri. It was a Convair 240 model that ran out of fuel and crashed in a heavily wooded area, rendering many dead on impact, including Ronnie. RIP Lynyrd Skynyrd. You will always remain awesome.
