I remember my grandma playing this song and telling me “listen here billy, when I die I want you to remember me not for how I am now(on her death bed due to cancer) but how we used to listen to this song all the time, and when the solo comes up I want you to rock ur little heart out like we did in the living room before, and know I’ll be playing the air guitar with you every time! I love you grandma! No one will ever play the air guitar as good as you!

Speaking of ghosts... i avoid this song at all cost but it catches me off guard at rare moments and i recall an indian princess that raised her head from an anonymous painting and wispered to me what i dare not repeat. Heres to you diane and my brother the warrior who died for me... im still a bird drinking to be free...

This was my father's favorite song. He died when I was nine years old, and he was only 35. He had been in pain for many years and deserved so much better. To this day I cry every time I here this song. It is so bittersweet for me. It reminds me of great times with my dad, and also how he is now free as a bird. It has been 13 years but I still miss him every day and this song always helps me feel like he is a little closer.

Not no but hell no to SHA. Radio has turned that into something worse than stupid tv insurance commercials. Skynyrd has a really diverse catalog of their own music. Why so many plays of about three or at most four songs is beyond me. Walls of ...., Curtis Loew, Down South Jukin', Whiskey Rocka...Tuesday, Southern Man, Needle and Spoon, and on and on....

“Free Bird” came on the radio when my Japanese lady friend was over for a visit. 3 seconds into the song she shouted, “This is a great song!” I said, “Wow, I didn’t know you heard this before?” She said, “I’ve never heard this before, but the introduction is so great, I can just tell it's a great song!” Very clever this Japanese lady. Quite beautiful too.

RIP Ronnie Van Zandt. Who knew he would die before age 30. He was 29 and died in a plane crash that killed several others, including the pilot and co-pilots. 20 people on the private chartered plane survived the crash. October 17, 1977 en route to Baton Rouge, Louisiana just outside Gillsburg, Missouri. It was a Convair 240 model that ran out of fuel and crashed in a heavily wooded area, rendering many dead on impact, including Ronnie. RIP Lynyrd Skynyrd. You will always remain awesome.
