Dev here, really glad this little game was interesting enough for a video! Congrats on beating it first try too - that's not easy! Agreed with pretty much everything you said - I think dark mines *can* be an interesting concept that forces more careful tool use, but definitely thinking about ways to add more counterplay. I have tons more ideas, so really hoping to expand this concept into something awesome!

Some ideas for things to add: -An upgrade/power that makes all revealed tiles change to their true value - not only being protected from e.g. EMP mines but also accounting for dark mines -Some form of ascension mode, including a larger board, new properties, starting with less probes and having more mines in a level -Multiple possible properties of the Ultimine -Upgrades for some of the powers, letting you e.g. get more uses of the armored probe, reducing the cooldown of the object radar etc.

As it stands now, dark mines have no counter play outside of wasting util on areas that are safe, maybe having dark mines give a wider range of warning, like a 5x5 of space that it shows as being in? That way it is harder to find but able to be worked around

I didn't win on my _first_ attempt, but I got a few successful runs in. I was trying to get one with a significant amount of probes left, but Ultimines are a bit too powerful for that. Edit: Pulled a run with six probes left, so about as close to perfect as possible. I don't plan on upgrading that to "actually perfect", way too much RNG for that to be any fun.

Did you noticed the bug/exploit at the end there? When Reto pressed continue the upgrades were a new set, so by the looks of it you can hard roll for exactly the build you want

The thing you were missing is that the thing which the mine detector revealed was the last darkmine.

Ah, makes sense, I assumed that since they were undetectable that the detector wouldn't detect them lol

to clear the confusion of the last round the things that highlight the structure/mine showed the emplacement of the last dark mine which was not piched up by the radar

"Who doesn't know minesweeper", was my first thought on your intro. But then I realised, probably quite a lot of your audience is younger than "Minesweeper is the only game on the PC"

There are also a lot of people who didn't bother to play it when it was the only game on the PC, not me I adored it, but I've learned a lot just skipped it.

The terrain map thing that didn't make sense in the last stage; I have to assume that was the last Darkmine, hence the numbers not adding up

ooh neat!! i think dark mines and ranged attacks play the role of *requiring* the roguelike abilities - without them, there's room for the game to just be several levels of minesweeper instead of a levelling+abilities+hp system. i think whether you like that aspect is a matter of taste, though, which does support your suggestion at the end that they be optional in some way

This is really cool and I will play this, I loved minesweeper. But it also just made me crave for a minesweeper-based tower defense, I'd love to see that

@kyrab7914 yeah I'm not sure either. Clicking on the tile could uncover the path for the enemies and the mines could be towers, and if you click on an uncovered tower you take damage. I'm just pitching the idea, but I think an action-based minsweeper could be fun

26:03 took me a moment to get but its a dark mine realized the moment the 3 was filled and there were no structures left essentially invisible to radar as seen earlier ignores readings of the numbers thus making it impossible to technically know if they are there or not but you had it surrounded and every cell around it was satisfied which leaves only the one possibility what a sick concept.

I think it would be a really cool mechanic if the Darkmine, instead of not showing up on the radar at all, just showed up less. Maybe it is only recognized by cardinally adjacent tiles, or diagonally adjacent ones, or just the one directly above it, something like that. I also question the validity of ranged attacks, like the four-way turret, just because it's close to impossible to tell when you will be hit by one hiding on the other side of the board.
