You are correct! We would not have known either if our friends hadn't told us about it. I will say that we have learned that it really pays off to stop at visitor centers. Yes, for Silverton take the 550 (million dollar highway) about a mile or two out of town. Then you will take a left on the 585. The 585 is a gravel road. The first two miles have free dispersed camping all the way up to where they have closed the road. Goldenhorn campground is at the end near the road closure. It is also free. Carrie list the coordinates for all of our camp spots in the video description if that works better for you. Also if you are familiar with the app Ioverlander it will also list this camping area with some reviews. I hope that helps. If not let me know and I will try to be more helpful. 😀

Exactly as An Alternate Perspective said. If we really love a spot and want to come back.... we put up our tent to save that spot. The key is.....
