Hey Jeremy, I took my ccna exam today and passed. I could not have done it without your expert instruction. I was enrolled in a college program using netacad, but it was difficult to read wall after wall of text. After 2 semesters I was ready to give up, but then I found your videos and resolved to push through. I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you have put into this course, but from the bottom of my heart thank you. Your course has helped me on the way to creating a better life for my family and I.

@@jcity943 I watched every video and took notes on each one. After that I used the anki cards to see if there were gaps in my understanding and would rewatch the video, mostly skipping through the parts that I had a grasp on. I would then do several labs each day. At first it takes a while to finish a single lab, but through repetition you can really burn through them once you've memorized the steps and commands. I purchased the Boson exsim practice tests, and they do help quite a bit. The formatting and types of questions are very similar to the actual test. It took me a month of 4-8 hour study days to feel prepared to schedule the test. Keep in mind I've had 2 semesters of college courses using cisco's netacad, so i did have a bit of a foundation to build on, but after summer break with no study or reinforcement, I felt like I had forgotten everything anyway. The week before the test I took the practice exams over and over, until i was making 90's each attempt. It's easy to find yourself memorizing answers without actually understanding, so make sure you read the explanations provided on each one. They are incredibly helpful. I also rewatched videos on topics i was missing questions on regularly and ran through flash cards. The test was, even with my preparations, intense. I thought for sure I failed, but I ended up passing. I am in a similar situation as you, lost my job during the pandemic and decided to just grind out the cert. Just make studying your job for the next month or so and you'll be good.

Hi Jeremy! So the company gave me 1 month to review for and take the CCNA exam. I spent 2 full weeks learning from your 53-day lecture course and Anki flashcards (very effective!) and 1 full week doing half of the laboratory videos before my scheduled exam, and then I saw that you uploaded Day 54 that same day, so I immediately watched it an hour before the exam to add more knowledge, and then I passed the exam! I can never thank you enough for your very effective approach of teaching networking fundamentals to us. I promise to leave a tip after my first paycheck! Thanks again, Jeremy, and more power!

When i get my CCNA, i plan to renew CCNA either through gathering CEs, which i believe we all can get enough for free on Cisco's learning portal (forgot the portal name), or i will get by acquiring another associate level cert (CYBEROPS, DEVNET). if im not correct, completing a CCNP NetAcad course also renews the CCNA (ENCOR, ENARSI).

basically an autonomous AP functions like a regular switch, but it's wireless. Each SSID is a access port in a different VLAN. Traffic from clients is switched regularly. This is the "classic" or normal AP and it's intended function. It's a wireless switch. While a lightweight AP is something different entirely with capwap tunnels to the WLC, like a GRE tunnel between routers.

Hi jeremy I have a question related to the Cloud-based WLC *lightweight deployment 29:49 So based on the lightweight deployment it is supposed to send the user data to the WLC via CAPWAP and also the management data, I have a few inquiries about it Do we need to have the link between the AP and the switch as an access? It seems that the user data needs to be sent to WLC on the data center first, is this optimal? or maybe there is a video that explains how this WLC deployment works... Very appreciate your response and your time Jeremy, Regards.
@JeremysITLab
@JeremysITLab Жыл бұрын
Hi! I'll answer your questions below: 1) Do we need to have the link between the AP and the switch as an access? -> Yes. Because traffic is tunneled to the WLC in the management VLAN, only the management VLAN is needed on the AP-switch connections, so they can be access ports in the management VLAN. 2) It seems that the user data needs to be sent to WLC on the data center first, is this optimal? -> It's not optimal, so it's probably better to use FlexConnect to allow the AP to locally switch the traffic between the wired and wireless networks without tunneling it back to the WLC (*in this case the AP-switch connection should be a trunk).

@PragmatikFN
@PragmatikFN 3 ай бұрын
Similar to how GRE Tunnels work, The packets have CAPWAP headers attached to them. The word "Tunnel" is a little deceptive in networking. Instead of forming an actual tunnel, packets are just encapsulated with additional fields to better direct and/or encrypt data to reach their desired destination. At least that is to my knowledge how this tunnel works as I just finished watching the GRE Tunnels lab video yesterday.

@@JeremysITLab I noticed the same, the question in Boson asks which provides BSSs and to select the best answer. The choices were bridge, FlexConnect, local, and sniffer. It was a choose one format. In the explanation it says "A Cisco lightweight AP operating in FlexConnect mode does not provide BSSs." It then goes on to explain FlexConnect and its purpose. Strange. I checked the official cert guide, page 647, and nothing is mentioned about BSS under FlexConnect. Anyway, I am very grateful for your CCNA Training, my exam is very soon, I will let you know how I do, thank you!

Hi. A question about the tunnels. Doesnt the data pass thrugh switches to the WLC? For eXample - if all 4 access points were connected to one switch? So why no trunk ports needed?

Could I have some clarifications please? 1. What is the difference between Monitor and Rogue Detector modes in Lightweight APs - they seem to serve the same function. The only difference I see is just their method they use to achieve the same goal - Rogue Detector only use wired traffic and Monitor uses radio traffic? 2. How does Monitor mode detect rogue devices - is it by looking at MAC addresses and ARP messages on the wireless network? 3. I'm not sure of my understanding of SE-Connect mode: Does SE-Connect mode provide information of which channels are used, detecting wireless network interference, amplitude etc.? 4. What is the clear distinction between cloud-based WLC Deployment and cloud- based AP architecture (Meraki)? Is it just the difference among APs that they use? Meraki technology uses autonomous APs with data traffic being switched locally, and cloud-based WLC deployment uses lightweight APs that makes data traffic travel through WLC every time? 5. With Meraki solution - do autonomous APs use separate management network/vlan for transfer control traffic between APs and WLC? 6. Can FlexConnect AP be configured to switch data traffic locally even when connection to the WLC is working fine or is it only possible when the connection to WLC brakes?

For 1 and 2, this document from Cisco is very helpful: www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/112045-handling-rogue-cuwn-00.html 3: Yeah it checks interference etc. for all channels. 4: A cloud-based WLC deployment is the same as any other WLC-based deployment (CAPWAP tunnels to the WLC, etc), the WLC is just in a different location. Cloud-based APs like Meraki are basically autonomous APs, but instead of being managed individually they all connect to Meraki servers for management. They don't use CAPWAP. 5: They don't have to, but it's always best practice to have a separate management subnet/VLAN. 6: Yeah they can switch traffic locally even when the connection to the WLC is up.

Thanks for the awesome series of videos! Just one question about CAPWAP tunnel: if WLC and APs are hosted at different branches (Flexconnect mode), it means that WAN links may be overutilized - what`s the sense of such idea? Does it really beneficial? In my perception much more easier to "explain" APs where is the default gateway to local WAN ..

In FlexConnect mode, is a trunk required connecting the AP to the wired network or will ALL traffic go over the default VLAN ID in the event that the CAPWAP tunnels go down?

Clarification question. You say FlexConnect offers one or more BSSs for clients to connect too. However Boson test sim has a question that says FlexConnect does NOT offer a BSS. So which is it?

According to BOSON (referred to OCG, VOLUME 1 CHAPTER 27), flex connect does not provide BSS's. Maybe pin it if its right or correct it (My comment) if its wrong. Would be helpful.

Hi Jeremy, by the way thank You for well-prepared lessons, they are very good. But I have a question regarding with flexconnect, if the WLC goes down, the communication go across the wired infrastructure (switches, etc.), that means if we decide on flexconnect, we need to create trunks between switches with necessery SSID vlans to forward traffic in case of WLC failure. Am I right? Thanks in advance
@ajc5298
@ajc5298 Жыл бұрын
as soon as you remained joined to the same AP and not reauthentication happens, you can still drop traffic to the corresponding VLAN/SSID. This traffic would travel over all the switches where that SSID/VLAN (flexc) exists. So the answer is yes, you need each SSID/VLAN configured on all the switches where it is required. Another detail, you can use macro switch to detect automatically the AP and change the port to trunk so it can handle all the WIFI VLANS.
