I was wondering. What if the ship listed really badly after you were inside and strapped down. Would there still be a way to release it if the angle prevented a free fall? Or, would the boat have to wait for it's buoyancy to free it.

I was wondering the same thing. I know listing is a problem for lowered lifeboats, so I was curious if the launch platform maybe gave the vehicle more clearance, at least.

The Shipp lifeboats are designed to break away or calabrate themselves at about 30 feet.

No one mentions that the drivers hands aren't visible, it doesn't look like there's anyone in the driver's seat at all. And the launch isn't generated by that person if they were even there, because they would have to grab a lever on the left side to release the latch. Which means, most of this didn't follow protocol unless I'm missing something, which I probably am.

It's really not specified rules about travel range or fuel capacity. In SOLAS Regulation 17 mentioned only that life boat shall be provided to run the fully loaded lifeboat at 6 knots for a period of not less than 24 h.
