These videos are awesome, I have learned a bunch from watching these videos. I work as a technician skilled on fiber and copper. I'm looking to get into the network provisioning/maintenance side of things. These videos make it easy for me to understand what's and what's being done.

How can you achieve true loss without a remote unit? You have a launch reel. Great. But for an OTDR to even guess at loss it needs a reel on the far end. A true loss test requires end-to-end testing with loss meters. Another thing you should acquire is an optical probe, A dry swab isn't a quality clean. Always wet to dry cleaning. You wouldn't chase your tail fiber after fiber with quality cleaning and probe of the surface of the fiber and adaptor port. I was raised on Exfo and moved to Fluke but the game is the same. Love your stuff. You drive that OTDR like a beast! I learned some stuff. Keep posting please.

Thanks for watching and commenting I really appreciate it. Yea great point and I totally know what you mean. for this customer they just want uni directional exfo OTDR 1 wavelength 1550 and 5 second tests and since it’s just distribution they don’t require a launch on the end. We also power meter all ports dual wavelength bidirectional with the exfo 930’s yea after 10 years of running the old girl I can get testing done pretty fast 😂 going to be upgrading this year tho and just keep this unit as a spare. Thanks for watching more videos coming soon

Keep em coming. I'm not throwing shade. I just want to know why you do what you do and maybe I'll learn something and vice versa. I was trained on 930s, actually 920s, and use them when our DTX 8000 is being used by another splicer. I rarely used a probe until recently. Slowed me down. But I swear by it now. Stay safe. I'll keep watching. @@fibersplicegod

Mating your launch directly to ports over and over greatly reduce its life, I mate a patch cord to end of launch to extend its life, if introducing a bit more loss at event 2 is ok

Yea I totally know what you mean I just clean all ports before testing to try and ensure I don’t mess up the launch box have not had to change a connector in years now so has been working pretty good can’t complain

Best brand to go with is exfo they are not cheap and expensive to keep calibrated but worth it I’ve had the same unit for 6 years now. Exfo max tester is a great unit and you can have multiple modules otdr and power meter along with a exfo 930 for the small handheld unit to pair with max tester for power metering

thanks you so much for the videos , i learn a lots !! i have two question and i hope you can help me with them : why Multimode OM2,OM3,OM4 even do they have same core size !!! but different in speed , in adapters , in patch cable ? also base on what i measure my OTDR Loss to , for example i have test a cable with length of 300metre , and the loss was 0.60 db, how do i know that this number is good or not ?
@fibersplicegod
@fibersplicegod 8 ай бұрын
Glad to hear this thank you for watching and subscribing I really appreciate it🙌 All the networks in my videos are all of single mode fiber. Multi mode fiber is more used for back bone infrastructure because you can transmit and receive on the same fiber as well as very high speeds/bandwidth. As for testing it all comes down to customer requirements aka what they would like there loss below per connector and splice based off the original design and equipment being deployed. Always reference out test cables as well as with OTDR I always try and keep connector loss at a 0.5 db and under and reflectance -50 and below

Hello Splice God, I’m a big fan of your content and I’m particularly impressed by your ability to incorporate your real-world experience into your videos. As a certified tech myself, I’m always looking for ways to enhance my skills and knowledge, I’m particularly interested if you subcontract yourself and how has your experience been? I’m currently exploring the possibility of becoming a sub myself and would be immensely grateful for your guidance and mentorship. Any advice or insights you could share would be invaluable to me as I navigate this new path. Sincerely, -Tony

Hey tony thank you for watching and commenting I really appreciate it and always enjoy helping others and sharing my knowledge on my day to day builds. Yes I have been contracting for myself for the last 10 years in which I have gained a lot of knowledge on how to contract in the telecommunications industry and be successful with it there is a lot to navigate but I could for sure help you out and teach you all about it. Would be best if you checked out my memberships on my home page on here. I have a direct consulting membership where I can help you out with any question you may have and also teach you all about contracting I really appreciate you watching and subscribing and commenting your questions means a lot. More videos to come soon through our December on some pretty cool big commercial buildings I am placing, splicing and testing so stay tuned for that. 🙌🙌🙌

Is it ok to reuse the swabs? Don't you risk transferring dirt from one port to the next?
@fibersplicegod
@fibersplicegod 8 ай бұрын
Yea I usually use the same swab for around 12 ports then switch to a new one and yes you can transfer dirt from one to the next but if you dip the swab in 99% alcohol in between cleanings it will remove the dirt from the swab and you will be good to go

the optimum optical power required for FTTH connection type is how much dBm ? (i mean a good connection for 1 gigabit ethernet )
@fibersplicegod
@fibersplicegod 8 ай бұрын
This customer requires a 0.35 db per any splice loss but they also have a acceptance for when there is a Afl spider web ribbon cable being spliced to a Corning or Prysmian cable the core diameters are not the same so we are allowed up to a 0.6 for a splice loss or gainer when testing that particular scenario. Thanks for watching and subscribing I appreciate it

No, what I wanted to say was not the acceptable loss in the splice sequence. what I wanted to ask was how many dbm range should the fiber optic power that should come to the gpon ont device installed in our apartment be in?@@fibersplicegod

Sir please, is there any software that I can use for fiber optics documentation, I need to be documenting every single activities
@fibersplicegod

I would say the best place to use for all documents for a network is Dropbox you can organize all your prints, as builds, test results and splice photos in there own folders on there works great for keeping track of all the networks throughout the year

Can you please make a video making a FDH from scratch
@fibersplicegod
@fibersplicegod 6 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching and commenting. We don’t build the fdh from scratch they are manufactured in Mexico and come pre built. We just simply place the cabinet on a cement pad and run the cabinet cables into a vault and splice the distribution cables to the cabinet cables and build out from there

Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it. Yea could clean more but as a contractor it’s not my duty to spend time cleaning and cleaning to try and get a better connector loss clean the port and connector once, retest and move on. Now if the client would like to pay me more to investigate the connector loss then by all means I can clean more and even replace the connector if need be on the fdh.
