Good to hear from you, I was stood alongside a goods train today waiting for it to move but it did not (Hobo movie) we do not get may goods trains on our line so it was quite rare. We don't even get any hitch hikers these days, I tried it not so long ago when the bus for work failed to turn up. Years ago I would have got a lift in minutes. Heck things are changing. All the best to you and Rick (Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture without the cannons)

nice chris i am always on the lookout for discarded items of interest as for company A can be done just costs extra also riled me so best get some one who's already voluntary signed up to get it for you Jess as matured looking forward to the next upload atb

On this item there is no option by company A to pay for postage, this I thought strange and expected to see it at payment, by which time they have already opted you in, so with no option to opt out until the end of the trial period I had to speak with them directly. I am sure they have done the math and know exactly what they are doing. The answer is of course to do as you suggest and Christmas is my best bet. As for Jess she has a few scars from her exploits but is a lot wiser for them and shaping up very well indeed. Atb

Absolutely excellent demonstration mate! 👌🏽👍🏽 No need to apologise at all, I totally understand and agree with you on the subject of the company! I was honestly reluctant to use them but as they were the easiest way of me getting started I had to surrender my opinions and turn yellow 😂. Anyway great to see you and Jess again! Take care and have fun 👍🏽👍🏽😎

Your book has already done an excellent job at concentrating my mind and really getting a feel for all things related to getting an efficient fire going and keeping it going in the outdoors. It was the only sensible choice of getting it out there really so no problem there. I will get one soon, for or before Christmas I would think :-) All the very best to you both.

I'm always surprised how you can make a fire with a bare minimum! 😁🔥 Great job! I can learn a lot from you! Have a great day! Kaat

Thanks Kaat, that is why I say it would take me ages to finish one of your scenic walks, I would be investigating about too much 🤣 You just need a lighter and some storm proof matches and you will be OK. Atb

@@GrasshopperOutdoors I carry a lighter (with fuel) and some regular matches but in plastic bag... 😁 So I guess I'm OK...

@@StepsbyKaatje I do the same in the dog's first aid kit but that never comes into play unless there is an emergency, and she has had a few incidents in her "almost" three years, so it pays to carry it. 😁

I may have given you some duff information the other night, Chris. If I did, I apologise. Right, to your video. Let me get the negative comments out of the way first. I'm not too sure about the background music, Chris. It made it hard to hear you sometimes. I think the sound of your voice and nature is just a tad better, methinks:-) Your videos are very relaxing and it is only a matter of time now before the ASMR channels come a looking, methinks, so..... I have been caught out myself in the past by that dreadful company, so I no longer use them. Well, you really got that going, dint you? Nice one. Thank you for another cracking little video. I Look forward to your next one. Take care.
@GrasshopperOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Yes I was braced for comments on the music as I do not like it myself, as you get older I think you preferentially loose your higher frequencies but we all have to experiment 🤣 I have been caught out before by the company so was wary but found they had actually signed me up even before I had payed (with no other options), so did not pay and then spent a lot of time getting out of the contract before the free trial was ended, consequently I will no longer deal with them. To them it is just math, even so it was still Mad Dog Survival's best option and I would have done the same in his situation as the printing is probably out of his hands, I will be looking forward to Christmas 😀 . All the best

Hi Chris😀 great stuff mate, that was quite an achievement whith what you had to work whith, I'm stunned my friend, looking forward to the next one, whatever it is I'm sure it'll be interesting. While we're on the subject of fire making I came across a batch of strike anywhere matches that I'd dipped the heads in wax a while back, after dipping they were tested and worked ok, now months later they won't strike, even if I scrape off the wax , any ideas would be appreciated, many thanks, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart uk
@GrasshopperOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The wax has probably soaked in and reduces the friction, you de-activate primers by putting a drop of oil in them (reducing the friction). Varnish the matches instead, you could put wax over the varnish if you wish. The importance of testing and testing 😀 Best wishes

@@GrasshopperOutdoors Hi Chris, thanks for the info, I'll try varnish/ shellac next lot and see what differance there is, cheers mate, kind regards Stuart uk.

@@stuartlockwood9645 You have reminded me, I have some matches in wax in the garage, off to test them now 😁
@stuartlockwood96452 жыл бұрын
@@GrasshopperOutdoors Hi Chris sorry only just turned my tablet on, so what happened to your waxed matches? Did they work?, or had they softened like mine. I'm still looking for some french polish I have in my shed somewhere, if I can find it I'll try that, and then test them once fully dry, maybe a week later, cheers mate, Stuart uk.

@@stuartlockwood9645 My matches originally had blue heads, they have been in the film canister for more than 15 years. On scraping off the wax and trying to strike them on both a Swan Vestas Box (sand paper) and a safety striker card, they just crumble. They are also no longer blue but white. The two military matches in the same container (not waxed) lit and burned as normal but they may have been in there for less time, but certainly over 5 years and possibly nearer 10. I pretty much forgot about them until your comment. So it just goes to show that for long term storage waxing is not the way to go.
