I find that unlike Tuna or other Pelagic’s Mako is better sliced a bit thin. It gets mushy if it’s too thick. I like it cooked medium to even medium well you really want only a touch of pink on the inside.

2 years ago I went on an 36hr offshore tuna fishing trip out of Manasquan NJ on a headboat the Jamaica to the Hudson canyon. We got to the Hudson a couple hours before sunset so we went around to lobster pot bouys for mahi which i got my limit of 15. At sunset we set up for night time chunking for yellowfin. The first 2 hours there where 2 fish hooked up but they lost both.from there it was completely dead no bites so around 2am I decided to rig up my 50W for swordfish and about 10-15 mins after I set my bait down to about 300ft my reel just started screaming. ended up fighting the fish for about an hour and a half did 4 laps around a 125ft boat we got a couple gaffs in my fish which ended up just over 300lbs. But about the same time they got a gaff in my fish another smaller swordfish about 90lbs followed my fish up to the boat and they where able to free gaff that one it was pretty wild.it was my first ever billfish and turned a crappy tuna trip into one of my favorite experiences in my life. If anyone's ever around New Jersey and is looking for a boat to go out on I highly recommend that Jamaica the captain is great at Getting you on the fish and the mates are all awesome!

Poor mako shark, such a wonderful and important species of the ocean, caught just to have fun and beeing proud to have caught such a big feared maritime animal. It makes me really sad, that i probably wont be able to see such an amazing, wonderful animal in wildlife while scubadiving underwater in 2050. All becaus humans cant take care of their own home And also the fact that the shark had been hooked before shows how few of them are left.

@andrewbland6252 жыл бұрын
@@staceybailey8163 Oh please, of course it's for fun and thrills. Listen to them. And just that an animal is eaten doesn't mean it's going to good use. Would you say it's fine to kill dolphins and whales as long as they're being eaten? What about elephants? There are not that many sharks left. They're more useful for the ecosystem when they're alive. Fish such as salmon, cod, mackerel, herring, and (some species of) tuna are naturally abundant and exactly the types of fish that we should be eating. But not sharks.

Killing any Type of shark is questionable bud. Even if you are using it as food and not just for fun. Given how long it takes for Mako sharks to be able to reproduce this shark was a juvenile and had never done so. Shark overfishing In china is out of hand and our oceans are heavily Impacted. So even if you have taken one or 2 sharks out no matter the species it will have a drastic effect, you might not see it now but you will, we all will . Even Diving 6 years back here In south Africa was a total different experience our great white population is honestly scary at this point. Fish all you want responsibly but please guys leave the sharks alone.

The whole world doesn't have that problem, in Alabama there were so many sharks you couldnt hardly catch a fish from the sharks eating them. I'm not advocating killing sharks without restraint, of course all fishing should be done with the idea of conservation and sustainability but taking a shark here and there isn't always a bad thing, and in some areas can be a good thing.

Many years ago I was on a sportfishing boat out of Rudiee Inlet, Virginia Beach. A 150lb Mako was swimming next the boat hoping for one of our Yellowfins. The mate, as a joke, asked the captain if he should gaff it and the captain, as a joke, said do ahead. So the mate gaffed it and yanked it into the cockpit. all of us were trying to get out the way as the fish thrashed around. The shark ended up knocking off both washdown spigots and tearing up everything but the fighting chair.

It is 1 of all sharks that do not pee through their skin they have urea in their blood that causes the piss taste. Common misconception people say this because makos have less of the piss taste when not bled right away but most sharks if cleaned properly don’t have that taste at all. The more ya know
