Man how long have you been making these types of beats?? Like I'll literally follow your tutorials step by step and they still come out bad but every time you post its gold

ive been producing for like 5 years now. Tutorials def help and can speed up the process but at the end of the day you just have to practice and put in the hours

Sound selection and sound design is also another possible key factor

something that helped me with beat making is focusing less on the "making" part and more on the "research" part. take a note and write down what is good about their beats, ex: high notes at the end, switch up in the middle, half step pause, girthy bass notes..etc. and try to implement it into your own work. rather than copying, youre actually understanding the decisions you make.

@@4twenny right. I fw that a lot. I watch tutorials and reference other tracks 99% of the time so that 1% of the time I make some completely original shi that turns out fire

@@4twenny And you can take this a step further by dropping a reference beat into a project and trying to recreate each element. For example, if there's a pad in such part, make (or find a preset of) a pad (doesn't necessarily have to be the same, or even similar to the reference beat) that plays during such part, same for any leads, etc. That'll help you break down the parts of the beat, and help you learn arrangement. Just try not to exactly copy the reference beat. Be creative where you can. Practice, practice, practice.
