In 2016, the match of the century unfolded as AlphaGo, an AI developed by Google’s DeepMind, challenged Lee Se-dol, a professional Go player, in a match. The result was a 4-1 victory for AlphaGo. After the match, Lee, one of the world’s best players at 9-dan ranking, expressed his astonishment, saying he found AlphaGo’s moves completely unpredictable. A novel written by a Japanese AI even passed the preliminary round in a literary contest, advancing to the final round.
