India has the tenth most amount of farmland in the world. Yet, CNN reported in 2022 that more than 30 Indian farmers take their lives every day. This alarming statistic is what led Vandana Shiva, a once-promising nuclear physicist, to dive into the food sovereignty movement.
Vandana Shiva attributes this tragedy to the Green Revolution and the introduction of GMO seeds, both of which aimed to increase food production. To protect food sovereignty, she stresses the importance of seed preservation and small-scale ecological agriculture.
In this lecture, Vandana Shiva explains how industrialized agriculture threatens farmers’ livelihoods and how genetically modified organisms destroy the ecosystem. She also introduces various activities of the Navdanya farm, which she runs herself. Additionally, she discusses the concept of ecofeminism, a movement she initiated to counter industrialized agriculture and powerful capitalist forces.
For Vandana Shiva, food is more than just sustenance; it is the source of life, intrinsically connected to nature and the lives of farmers. Shiva’s lecture will lead you to reflect on the significance of agriculture and food in our lives,

This information has been available for years. I have been aware of all this along with climate change, including the disaster for Indian farmers for more than 40 years. I am not special, I worked as a general nurse. I just read, listen to the radio, (bbc) watch tv attended the odd meeting. I also learned at school in the 1960s about the terrible suffering of the British rural poor due to various enclosure acts. The appalling treatment of the 18th and 19th century factory workers as well as the Africans enslaved in the Americas. Etc. Etc

May the older generations apply her wisdom and feed no more the system, moving out of it into healthy, responsable living in nature, like my offgrid family did here in rural România, that should be the only goal, focus of humanity right now, incrementally , every other pseudosolution like voting, politics, economics, globalist ecology etc is just another trap, no more postponing, our collective return to land living needs to be done urgently with the actual rhythm of poisoning the planet and humanity, we can't stretch this enough, all of you reading this and having some common sense, independent thinking unaltered need to act fast yet not in rush, worldwide, caring for a small parcel of rural soil and creating rural bonds with others, small communities, wait no more and act for our future generations now

She's speaks like an angel I could listen to her lectures all day she makes a lot of sense and the best person who is trying to tell or expose how much the agricultural land is being exploited by corporations who are only interested in the pursuit of making millions selling chemicals to farmers much to the detriment of the soil which has its own nutrients like worms who quietly till the soil while we sleep I love worms and if you have worms in your garden it is a healthy garden because I feed my soil with leftovers from peeling carrots potatoes and the worms are happy.

Society is out to make Money. The World is our Mother Earth and she's not here to make money, she's here to grow and evolve her Children. Dr. Shiva is the next step in our collective evolution and I can promise you that the World will not forget her. Many of us Wild Ones have heard her call to return to our true purpose of being Caretakers of the Earth, our Mother and the giver of all the life we are. Society is going to have to change or we'll say "let's forget about society and live with the Earth again in harmony" and we will we. Earth is our Garden of Eden and we are the caretakers, regardless of how we feel about it, it's time to evolve and mature how we are as a collective. Our "world" leaders of the nations have been acting like spoiled children and bullies for far too long, no excuse for war in an advanced race of beings all sharing the same planet, no excuse for poisoning the planet either. That's unacceptable foolishness that should not be allowed anymore anywhere anyway. We can do better now that we know better thanks to people like Dr. Shiva and Ghandiji.

"... (industrial agriculture) has created hunger at a very large scale ... ". I was hoping you to elaborate on this. May be next time.... Our kind of population (shear scale of it) and our mind-boggling food demand (shear quantity of it) need solutions. I guess #IndustrialAgriculture, with its promise of quick higher productivity, was seen as one (short sighted though as it created other problems). But, 140crore Indians (7 billionS across the world) need food. Please do another video elaborating on how industrial agriculture, while pursuing higher productivity goals to feed more people, actually ended up creating hunger. Thanks 🙏

I understood from long ago school history lessons that industrial agriculture, in Britain at least, started with the enclosures when landowners (many of the largest descended from Norman French invaders/robber barons but many more given land confiscated from one group and given to another by various monarchs. I was surprised to find this started in the 12th century but took off in the 18th and 19th. The misery is hinted at in Thomas Hardy's novels. The Mayor of Casterbridge springs to mind. Politics and religion led to the cruelty of the plantations in Ireland (of protestants who had Catholics thrown off their land with an hour's notice so they could be 'planted' in their place. The infamous highland clearances in Scotland where crofters were evicted to make way for sheep. The Btitish land owning class are on the whole a despicable lot. Individuals who werent stand out. So this industrialisation has been a long time evolving. Monsanto et al are the moral descendants of these

@@SarojSingh-nq5ql Its crucial to get educated about the potential and actual harm relatively done by using allopathy medicine in curing non communicable diseases and not only this damage has lead to multi organ failure but also on the other hand making pharmaceuticals richer. The damage done by this process is much more than the usage of inorganic chemicals in agriculture, which is not tackled by this speaker. During green revolution it was necessary to use those chemicals since the food production was growing at much slower rate than population growth rate. In addition, market is not able to differentiate organic and non-organic food or produce since there is no credibility. Even in the US, not more than 1% of the market is occupied by organics. Its crucial to analyze.

Hmmm. No. Not all traditional farming works with the ecology. You are so right about the interdependancy of the plant, fungal and animal life on our poor planer but a lot of traditional farming methods did degrade the land. Slash and burn agriculture was practised all over. Over grazing by domesticated animals is today creating deserts in parts of Africa. After a few years the degraded land was abandoned as thd farmers moved onto the next area. But the population back then was small enough to accomodate this. Thd degraded land slowly recovered. We used to be taught that the Amazon was pristine ancient forest but now, especially since lidar, we find that much of it is secondary growth. There are cities and settlements dotted around now hidden by regenerated forest.

What is GDP ? Some think it is a measure of the capacity of a populace or country without first thinking about what that looks like when inside the way we do money. The money system itself indebts everyone for the simple availability and use of abstract acCounting units. The ramifications are staggering given that no 'issuance or lending' of acCounting units makes any rational or mathematical sense. How does any People gain control over the direction of their enterprise and labor for all that needs to be done if they do not have control over and correct the mistakes we have all been making about money for centuries? The MSTA is showing that money must be understood to be an after the fact bookkeeping tool for the abstract representation OF the value interchanges within the populace and, therefore, cannot BE an item of value itself. Interestingly, when folk bring up the subject of taxes it is this same confusion as to a unit of measure vs an item of value (that people must obtain to 'pay' taxes) that gets in the way of genuine full capacity of a populace and the people's ability to remain free and undirected by the "on high" folk that put together the present iteration of the money system we are using. The colonial history tells how 'in-kind' contributions of the people toward their own societal obligations (taxes) would not satisfy colonial objectives to capture, control, and direct the labor of the populace. It should be clear that the process of environmental restoration will not be facilitated by the very monetary system used to subjugate, 'monetize, and commoditize' nature itself. So, it is imperative to develop the monetary literacy of a populace genuinely focused on both "free" enterprise (freely chosen and directed, not controlled and directed by imperialists) and full capacity. The full capacity part comes by recognizing that the "credit" for all the doing that needs to get done is NOT dependent on some omniscient "on high" beforehand creation of abstract units of representation. No, the full capacity recognizes that The People can no more run out of money than they can run out of inches! We must bring the focus to 'What' is wrong with our conceptual base as opposed to focusing on 'Who' is using that illogical starting point and trying to make it work. www.moneytransparency.com/en/core-misrepresentation Every level of governance can bring these resolutions to the fore: www.moneytransparency.com/msta-resolutions We need to get Way More Specific and talk about the concepts and systems that keep people enslaved. There is nothing legitimate about a government issuing and then determining access to the abstract acCounting unit. That is NOT a function of governance in a free society. And since no government actually has this power it cannot legitimately hand this off to banking, thereby indebting every populace and every country. When the population goes along with this they then have to dedicate their working hours to acquire the imperialist's coin, so the imperialist has control and direction over what shall be done. Every jurisdiction can bring these resolutions!! www.moneytransparency.com/msta-resolutions It is not just the Fed and/or the BOE but the entire monetary system that is both a ponzi scheme and a fiction and a backwards private control of the credit system itself. Private banks create nearly (97%) the entire money supply in the form of loans. It is created at interest, but the interest has not been created, does not exist. How one proves credit worthiness in this system is to show that you are not one of the poor bastards that has not or will not compete for something that does not exist, and you have shown that you are willing to go along with the game of musical chairs, even though you and everyone else knows there are not enough chairs. So when one speaks about moral complicity in participation within this system one raises an extremely important question as to why people would play this kind of game. Yet it goes on in its many variations first training the children and then corrupting the adults to not question why the family has just sat down to play the board game monopoly! GDP is nonsense, because it says nothing about the paradigm in which it is being assessed.

I think no. And, especially not for example in Britain when many farmers are now being paid to turn the land into nature reserves instead of producing food. Without importation of food we would have starvation now. This is the cost of the "new green revolution". Always two sides.

I do agree that the name is completely wrong. However, it was difficult to feed the whole world with eco friendly agriculture. The industrial agriculture helped to produce food in large quantities with out being affected by natural afflictions. More than half of the families even in India had not enough food. When someone is going to die with poverty, you don’t really care what you eat. Disaster happens because the laws are not followed properly. Now there is a growing trend everywhere going back to the eco friendly farming. Hopefully it will be achieved gradually with sufficient healthy food to feed all. ❤

Yes. This talk is very one-sided. It idolises traditional agriculture (which includes slash and burn farming and many destructive practices) and demonises anything modern, basically. There is of course some truth in what she says but she also omits some very significant points such as organic farming having very low yields and requiring a huge labour force prepared to do back-breaking work, very few people in today's society are prepared to do such work, if we went back to unmechanised, organic farming methods there would be mass starvation as a result. This she is omitting to say. If someone reading this wants to say "then we are over populated", then you are of course free to reduce the population, but start with yourself.

We know. Literally everyone knows. It's supported because it's seen as positive nationalism to support capitalist agriculture. Supporting organic, sustainable ag means supporting the working class and lifting the poor out of poverty so it's seen as anti-capitalist, which is "bad". No progress has been or will be made as long as financial power over others is seen as good.

However, the ecological impact and hunger impact is true and very serious as well. In fact our crops don't have the same amount of nutrients like the wild varieties traditionally grown crops of the 1960s leading to high malnutrition in our country along with reasons such as poverty ,lack of access to other healthy foods such as fruits , vegetables at the present .

The question boils down to this, without industrial agriculture, would there be 8 billion people on the planet? And without industrial agriculture, how many people would starve? Who will get the food and who will not… under global equity. No one wants to be a farmer, it’s hard work, that few sign up for. And who will pay for this equity of food. Please don’t say rich people, there aren’t enough of them. You would need slaves (free labor). US taxpayers are not slaves, they do not want to be farmers, they will therefore have to continue to use industrial farming.

One third of agricoltural land in the world is used to grow animal feed, which is extremely inefficient as we know much less land (and water!) is needed to obtain the same amount of nutrients from non-meat product. Also, productivity in well planned and maintained non industrial agricolture, increases over time as the ecosystem starts maturing to provide better services. So, undoubtably, yes. Not only can non-industrial agricolture sustain 8+ billion people, but at some point in time, it will. Industrial agricolture may work with a stable climate but once that is gone out of the window, more resilient methods will be needed.

It's in the hands of the citizens of Pakistan to do what is best for your country. Remember the army & government are represented by only a small percentage. People of Pakistan should join together, speak up & speak out. You have might when you are in the majority. All the best 🙏🏼

When we have to date anything which produced in Bhaarath, one must not go with stats of western education which is still our curriculum or from the narratives of western historians. This applies to every individual Bhaaratheeya starting from common man to a well educated individual. History of Bhaarath beyond our imagination. One would not agree to a fact that history of Bhaarath dates back to millions of years with the human presence. Yet our own people question it. As this can go on and on as endless discussion about our history, I will stop here and come back to the a point of this video which made me write all of these facts. It was about the age of farming in Bhaarath. Is it really just 10,000 years old? How could it even possible for Aborigines to do the agriculture 60,000 years ago when we Bhaaratheeya has/have wisdom which no other country has in their scripts and culture..!? how is it possible for someone who are aborigines can do it much prior to the people who has wisdom.!? Who are aborigines? why those aborigines genes(they say it is south east asia genes but hey, remember.. western countries never ever wants to credit Bhaarath) are Bhaaratheeya and they look the same as Bhaaratheeya people..? one must always connect these dots.. never relay on western narratives and evidences since they never credit Bhaarath.. Last but not least.. Agriculture in Bhaarath is millions of years of old.. if not more than 2,00,000+ years old.
