Door insert is NOT easily replaceable. The arm-rest is plastic-welded to the door panel. A good shop can remove it and recover (AMHIK). The glue on things from eBay that someone else mention are an option but a band-aid.( IMHO) The wheels are commonly called Snowflakes by Jeepers. The fact that the doors all lock and unlock is a big plus. To fix the seat just hunt for WJ seats which will most likely be easier to find and bolt onto the ZJ mounts very easily with only very minor wiring change (AMHIK). The front damage most likely also got the header panel behind the grill. It's cheap and you might as well get it because the factory one gets so brittle with age when you push the new headlights back in it will break easily (AMHIK).
@ProjectDanH5 жыл бұрын

I have owned a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for 19 years with the select trac transfer case and have never heard the clunk because I have always rolled it backwards so that the 4 wheel drive would Fully engage. I have never had a problem out of it.

Thanks Steve Ray! The wonderful thing about our beloved selec trac transfer case is you you can engage 4wd on the fly! We are able to shift while driving up to 55 mph without ever reversing. Reverse does helps disengage it. The clunks were from the busted sway war end link. Thanks for your input!

Well, no plans for it, so just fix that accident damage and leave it alone. Maybe fix that door arm rest and see about trying to fix that driver's seat before it gets any worse. I love my 98 ZJ. I want a 98 5.9L Limited too hard to find in good condition though, I've only seen 2 one was at a pick a part yard, the other used to run around town but haven't seen it for a while. Yes its an SE...but not really. Still a Laredo, but with some SE options and some Limited options...I have the exact same year and model and same color interior and exterior. 4L I6, selec-trac 4WD, Trac-lok rear differential, and 3.73 gears. I have the Laredo wheels on mine, yours has the limited wheels. The rear seal on my flipper glass leaks as does the rear hatch seal itself. Need to get both on mine replaced. I replaced the struts on my flipper glass and lift gate last year for $30 for all 4 off ebay. I have 157k on mine. Hey I just noticed the rear wheels are lit up on the VIC in your Jeep, mine are not, sure glad I noticed, I'll have to do a bulb replacement on mine. Funny, my previous 96 ZJ had the same sway bar link break LOL. I had all the bushings replaced in the front end of my 96 at the same time, need to have my 98's done too I think. Does your ZJ have CV axles up front or U-Joints? I have U-Joints in mine, difference between the nice smooth full time 4WD in turns between my 96 and 98. The 96 had CV joints no binding in turns, but with the U-Joints even in full time mode you get a bit of binding feedback from the U-Joints. The alarm in my ZJ went off randomly at about 2am one day, turned out it was the switch for the rear flipper glass, its a pain to get to so I just disconnected it, so when the flipper glass is open now the interior lights don't turn on, don't care about that part LOL.
@ProjectDanH5 жыл бұрын
That's awesome, we have the same ZJ lol. Mine has U joints. It's leaking oil Everywhere! 🤦♂️ Im gonna try to find flipper glass struts so I can keep it open cuz I bet the ac is broken. Lol. I'll definitely be enjoying this restored to stock!
@wildbill23c5 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectDanH Rear main seal, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket are the common leak points, as well as the front main seal. Maybe its a Laredo thing for U-Joints up front, maybe a matter of which transfer case maybe since the quadra-trac system was full time 4WD having the CV axles up front would give a nice smooth feel over the U-Joints.
@ProjectDanH5 жыл бұрын
Ill probably lift it a couple inches eventually, so when im doing that ill drop the oil pan replace the rear main and the oil pan gaskets. Ill do the valve cover gasket when I add 4 hole injectors

@@ProjectDanH Mine has the dome light staying on issue, seats are more worn (back seats are untouched), wood trim, selec-trac, some front end issues, maybe a wheel bearing, and the kicker....a transmission that is going out. $800 but ZERO rust and no body damage. Mine seems to have a rubberized coating that was put under it. I'm probably going to take on re-building the transmission.

Ok so i think you already found a name General Grevious because it came from someone from our armed services, its a nice military style color so that could fit. And as far as the gurgling noise coming from the dash. My 99 cherokee did the same thing, had heat coming out of both hoses also but it ended up being the heater core. Best think to do is flush the system and see if youve got contaminants. If you do than likely its clogged.
