I'm super happy to be able to share with you my new, free patch pack for the Korg Volca Drum - 16 brand new kits exploring the Volca's exciting synthesis engine. You can hear each of the kits in this video and get the patches for free on my site here: www.oscillatorsink.com
Follow the patch links to open the patches in my free Volca Drum patch editor and send them to your Volca Drum - don't forget to save them to a kit slot.
I hope you enjoy playing with these kits as much as I did creating them!

I can't pick a favourite. They're all good in their own ways. The Gamalan and Reso kits are crazy creative. Vyla would be amazing if the pitch scaling was easier to control/sequence. @OscillatorSink
@OscillatorSink 4 жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks! I like to mix in some heavily FM'd oscillator (using the second modulation mode, high rate, set amount to taste) in with the noise to give it a metallic flavour. You can try that both with a short amp envelope to act as a "ping" at the start of the note or longer (and generally mixed in lower) to give it flavour. Give that a go.

I've tried both Chrome and Opera with them both yielding the same result - I'm only getting 2 of the sounds per kit across while the others seem to be somehow "lost in translation" and completely different from the ones in the video. For example, on the Vyla kit the sounds associated with 1 and 5 work as intended - 2, 3 and 4 are various stages of white noise while 6 sounds like a rimshot. I'm missing something here but not too sure what. Help grealty appreciated!

@OttosTheName
@OttosTheName 4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a Volca Drums/Sample/Beats yet. I'm leaning towards the Sample partially because I can load African percussion sounds on to it. Do you think you could get reasonably close to the sound of a Djembe with the Volca Drum? I haven't found a good example yet and music stores that sell Volca's are far away. And another question, I think most Volca Drum demo's sound a little on the harsh side. I like the metallic sound, but I'd like to roll off some high end. Can you set a Low Pass Filter per sample?
@OscillatorSink
@OscillatorSink 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you'd get a really convincing djembe, but it does do good general "percussion" sounds if you want. What you need to remember is that the Volca Drum isn't playing back samples - it's a synthesiser and the sounds are being created "from scratch". There isn't a filter per part (well there is on the noise sources, but not the overall part), but if you synthesise a mellow sound, then it'll be mellow. I think a number of the kits in this pack are pretty mellow, but maybe you disagree?
@OttosTheName
@OttosTheName 4 жыл бұрын
@@OscillatorSink Oh it doesn't have to be convincing, but it would be nice if you could make something that resembles it. There are some very nice sounds in this demo that sound pretty mellow, I especially like the OS-Reso1 and OS-Deep2 sounds. It's just that in general when I hear Volca Drum demo's I often hear some very interesting sounds that I would just like to make slíghtly less harsh. It just seems to be the overall character of the Volca Drum I think. Thanks for the quick reply :) I think I'm going for the Volca Sample first (and the NTS-1), but the Drum is also definitely on the list of stuff I want to own eventually. That reminds me, do you think you'll get the NTS-1? I'm very hyped about it, even just as an effects processor it seems like a lot of bang for the buck and the perfect Volca companion.

Make sure your Volca doesn't have a midi channel selected (ie it's in the split channel mode) and that the "Midi RX Short Message" setting is turned on in the global settings. I've just spent two hours trying to transfer your patch to my Drum via Chrome. I tried using a minijack-to-mini-jack, a Midi interface (Focusrite 2i2) and also midi directly to the compute's headphone in. I tried the sync and the headphone in on the Volca. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance :)
@OscillatorSink
@OscillatorSink 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think the Focusrite 2i2 has a MIDI connection? You need to use a midi cable (a 5 pin DIN cable, not an audio jack) into the Volca Drum's midi in and the other end into a Midi interface of some kind. By the sounds of it you might not have a midi interface?

Just watched it again...are the patterns varying when they are repeated?
@OscillatorSink
@OscillatorSink 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. So there'll be one or two factors playing into that depending on the pattern: 1. Some steps have probability applied so aren't firing every time the pattern repeats 2. Some parts have patterns with different numbers of active steps so there is some polymeter stuff happening as they roll over each other.

But your website was saying "could not get midi access". There is no midi with the yahama mixer (that I was going to use as the interface to save money). So if this won't work, should I just get a cheap midi to usb adapter (if they exist) or should I spring for a read audio interface? thanks! @@OscillatorSinkyou're right you superstar! It was the MIDI interface. I changed it and got everything to work. Great patches, thank you!! You can set it to work on a single midi channel (details in the manual) - just bear in mind that it won't work with my editor in that mode.
