I don't like it when lego is out of qwp with in the first few hours or within the first day and not letting other people have a chance to get their hands on them especially if they don't get paid at the end of the week

Lego is getting so greedy lately on their pricing :(

I'm not sure how it is in North America, but i find the gwp system in the UK to be quite good. I've never been to the lego store in recent times where there is no gwp. I recently was buying a set for 95 pounds, got a 100-200 piece set, a polybag, and double points. I personally enjoy the gwp's as it just means that whenever I do a big purchase from the lego store, I get something extra with it.

i feel like we used to get really good GWPs, but they’ve been lacking recently!
@KatoSwift2 жыл бұрын
They've just increased the price threshold in order to qualify for a GWP. So it's not so much a scam as it is greed. They are not cheating you out of money; you paid for the product you purchased and the GWP is free so it's just an incentive for people to hit certain price thresholds.

I also have some Gifts with Purchase, but I buy them directly for about $20 on other websites instead of spending over $100 in a store for large sets that I am not interested in (I am reluctant to buy LEGO in store, but sometimes I can't wait for new sets so I also join the VIP). Still, the 40587 few weeks ago has a reasonable requirement of spending (far less than $100). I bought 2 city sets that I can definitely get 40587 for free, but my purchase is 5 weeks earlier than the release of 40587😢

Yeah, I know lots of people who do that. They’re not normally that expensive for resale. I often only get the GWP if it’s on a set I wanted anyways… if that makes sense

What’s funny on Christmas you get gifts from 50€ til 200€ and on January and February you get only 1 gift at 180€ sow I only buy in if I really need new bricks or on 2x times points

From this year I knew I wanted to get the vintage taxi so I did order the home alone Ideas set for $250 back in February and I had my mom do a separate order to get the friends apartments set and a few other small things for me and we got 2 vintage taxis which normally is not something I go by when collecting lego but I am trying to switch all vehicles in my city over to being more vintage looking and closer to the ones from modulars or closer to the fire truck from set 7239 from 2005 the oldest set in my city at 17 years old. Going into next year I plan to only get the March gift with purchase what ever that is and call all lego buying good for the year. Atleast first half since my backlog is overflowing.

I totally agree with you! I Cannot always spend the amount of money to get gift with purchase!! Lately, I’ve been buying some GWP’s on eBay if the price is right! Vintage taxi, the boat and Jane Goodall, eBay purchases. Have to be responsible with my responsibilities!
@brickloverbrad2 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! That's smart. I even hear of some people buying sets & selling for more $ on eBay/BrickLink to get their money back

Sadly, LEGO is expanding and getting way too greedy like any big capitalist corp these days, while degrading in QC, and the GWP gimmick has become an evil marketing trap for those who can afford them, instead of a "thank you for your purchase please come back again" item... I really hope their current marketing strategy team won't lead LEGO to implode on itself!... LEGO suppose to be a beautiful creative output and a lifestyle for all ages, not a cash grab trend to be forgotten!
@brickloverbrad2 жыл бұрын
I agree! It truly feels so transactional now. Instead of making a purchase and being gifted an item, you have to plan your purchase to get the item which I don’t like
@TheRealFeechLaManna2 жыл бұрын
Oh they are scamming us alright. 500 USD for a plastic train with no real chance of expansion or motorization..You can get a small but decent laptop for that money.
@brickloverbrad2 жыл бұрын
LOL oh yeah don’t even get started on that one…
@brickanizor8392 жыл бұрын
Well, that train is meant to be a display piece with some fun features, and not particularly a common LEGO toy. It's very expensive item for sure, but certainly not for everyone!... Sadly TLG is focusing more and more on the luxury market and on the well to do crowd while slowly eliminating its core values.

I’ve certainly noticed that the cost of the minimum purchase has shot way up on so many of the gift with purchase. Things that annoy me is they don’t often run when new sets release, so I sometimes don’t buy a set I want straight away because I know from previous experience that they sometimes do gift with purchase from the middle of a month so I wait. That has come back to bite me sometimes like when the Back to the Future DeLorean came out I waited for a gift with purchase but then it went out of stock. Another thing that I find annoying is the fact that if the threshold for the gift with purchase is £150 and you want to buy a set that costs £149.99 you have to buy something else because it needs to be exact, you can’t just be one penny out. One thing you can do if you really want a gift with purchase but there are no sets you want or need, which I have done myself, is buy sets to get the gift and then sell the sets on EBay to get your money back.

There's little incentive for LEGO to run a GWP when a hot new set is released. The fact a particular set is hot means they don't need to add any incentives (whether it is a GWP or 2X VIP points) to attract customers to buy the hot new set. GWP and 2X VIP bonuses are sales tactics to help move product after the initial demand hits its peak and they need a tool to keep that demand high. You waited for a GWP promo to get the DeLorean. Because it was a hot new set, other people didn't want to wait and bought it Day 1. That proves they didn't need a GWP to entice people to buy the DeLorean.
@KatoSwift2 жыл бұрын
YMMV but where I am, if I buy something in-store and I'm a few pennies off, the sales rep still gives me the GWP even though technically I didn't hit the minimum price threshold. Worth checking out different local LEGO stores near you (if you have more than one). If you are ordering online, however, I see what you mean. In those cases, I just add a minifig.
@BarryFrancis2 жыл бұрын
@@KatoSwift, yeah I realise that is why they don’t do gifts with purchase when a ht new set comes out. I just found it a bit annoying that I knew I wanted the DeLorean but didn’t “need it” on day of release and could wait but then it went out of stock for so long, in fact I’ve only just managed to back order it.
@BarryFrancis2 жыл бұрын
@@KatoSwift, I am talking more about ordering online as even though I could get to one of the Lego stores in London it would take me about a two to two and a half hour round trip by train to get there. I’ve never thought about asking if I’m in store and a couple of pence shy of the total needed if I could still get the gift with purchase. If I’m a little short of the total on line I sometimes buy one of the key rings and then sell it on EBay.
