Really good example of how the saturation on the bass sounds completely different when solo'd vs. in the mix. In context, the harmonics give the bass a lot more presence, and it hardly sounds distorted. Thanks!

One of my favorite songs. And this cover/mix sounds really good.. I'm hypnotized by the vocals in this cover.. kind of dead pan-ish in a good way. and I like the slightly different melodic choices they made vs the original. What made the original for me was the lively bouncy feel of the song. This strangely captures the feel somehow even though the original was a lot more live and raw not necessarily in perfect time..

What a great segment to follow up the ticket to ride video. This song? A great cover and a really great mix. Loved-it! If he was working for smooth with all that going on - I'd say he got it. After working on the ticket to ride stems - gonna go back have a look at the verb again and maybe dump some of the stereo. Anyway, huge fan of the king/goffin songs and have covered a few over the years. Thanks again. Cheers.

“I’m not doing anything” - then you see all those fader rides! How do you even begin to do that on so many tracks? He must have an idea in his head what it will sound like in the end? MDN did a cracking video on that but I’d love to see more on the art of fader riding.
@Producelikeapro2 жыл бұрын
Indeed Richard. Dave is making a point that he didn't do a ton of compression, EQ etc, he did mainly fader rides, replacing what most people would use compression for, very Al Schmitt!

Always thought Todd's original version was Todd doing his own Motown version of Tomorrow Never Knows. Todd's has a lope to the rhythm which sorr of almost falls over itself on each turnaround. Not sure playing it straight works for me otherwise, really well done if a tad anodyne in flavour
@Producelikeapro2 жыл бұрын
Indeed, I think its was very influenced by Carole King, who is of course Louise's Mum. The Louise heard it as a little girl she asked her Mum 'when did you write this song?'

Who am I to disagree, but the hi hat opening and closing is more disco than Motown. I know this is a mix and not a production vid. The drums don’t have that enviable loose sound which was down to the players and really difficult to replicate.
