Was so glad I found you video using a 221 Featherweight for free-motion quilting, but regret the information I was wanting to hear was drowned out by the music. Hearing the 221 purring is much preferred to any music.

Love your video. Straight to the point, clear, and the bobbin information was the key to me not losing my mind. I'm so happy you shared this info. Thank you 10000xs

If the machine has a zero setting on the stitch length dial, set it at zero and your feed dogs won’t move. Great tip I learned and have been happily free motion quilting on any machine for years doing this. Also, it keeps the tension where it should be for hours of hassle free sewing.

New adventure for me I have a featherweight red S machine and wondered if it was capable of free motion. After seeing this I have hope to learn how to free motion quilt. Thank you

🇨🇦 Thank you from Victoria BC. This was MOST informative and helpful!!! I’m about to tune up my grandmother’s 1949 Featherweight and start free motion quilting. My grandmother put thousands of stitches on this.machine. I have the quilts she made from my grandfathers beautiful old wool suits...all hand herringbone stitched and hand tied with a well washed wool blanket as the batting. This little sewing machine has travelled from the prairies to the mountains to the ocean. It has travelled on our sailboat and has repaired sails. It sewed baby clothes for my children. Many utility quilts for friends, family and the homeless. Thank you again from your new Canadian subscriber. 🇨🇦

Very informative video. I'm someone who has never freemotion stitched. So for me, it would have been helpful to see close up's of the detailed steps in your video.

I love the juxtaposition of the modern watch with the vintage featherweight. I have the 222 and almost bought a 301 when common sense kicked in and realized I have already have the 222k! This is a great video. But I'd prefer the 201 with the drop feed dogs and a wider harp for free motion. Would love to see you treadle a featherweight!

I just discovered your channel. I was hoping to hear the featherweight but the music was just a little too loud. I’ve just starting looking into buying a featherweight and wanted to hear how it’s suppose to sound. Thank you 🙏🏻 for your expertise ❤️❤️❤️

Featherweights don’t make much noise. They are very quiet machines.

Another reason why stitches are not being made is you threaded the needle from left to right instead of right to left. Speaking from experience 😊 Great video!😊

Thank you so much for the great video. I'm in the UK and I can't find the painters tape. Only masking tape even the blue tape sold here is called masking tape. Is there another name for the tape you use?
Frog tape is available in the UK. The delicate one works well.

Have you successfully used rulers with your Featherweight fmq? The low-shank ruler foot is not working for me, but I'm willing to invest in the darning/foot if that's what is necessary.

How to rewind and insert a new bobbin?

As others I found the music a little loud. I also wish we could have seen what you were doing instead of just the back of the machine with your hands even covering you putting the foot on.

What do you use to clean the residue of old masking tape on the featherweight?
@FeatherweightDoctor3 жыл бұрын
I use naphtha! Lighter fluid. No ammonia, citrus or alcohol based cleaners. They eat the finish.

what's the pressure on the scale! Like I'm supposed to know what the "line" means?
@CrazyAuntVal5 жыл бұрын
She explains, "There's a line on the scale that indicates that the tension is correct." Exactly what it means: a *line on the scale* - it's just like a line on a measuring cup.
@RenaissancePeopleNYC5 жыл бұрын
@@CrazyAuntVal Yes but the line corresponds to a specific force, like 20 grams or .75 oz, etc.
@CrazyAuntVal5 жыл бұрын
@@RenaissancePeopleNYC The ideal tension depends on several factors, including the thread you're using, the weight of the fabric you're sewing, and the type of sewing you're doing. There is no "one correct tension" for every occasion. Your owner's manual should list the "ideal tension" - start there and adjust accordingly to get a balanced stitch for your fabric/thread combination and the type of sewing you're doing.
@RenaissancePeopleNYC5 жыл бұрын
@@CrazyAuntVal I'll try one more time - do you know what the line on the scale corresponds to in GRAMS OR OUNCES? I didn't ask ANYTHING about tension or how to sew!
@chevydude6585 жыл бұрын
@@RenaissancePeopleNYC I got what you meant. But, I don't think whoever answered was picking up what you were asking. The lines on the scale are measured in grams. I just happen to know they're calibrated in grams.
