My primary #keyboard question: When will there be a version with an IBM/Lenovo compatible TrackPoint (including 3 buttons below the space bar) of Das Keyboard, since that would converge the best of both worlds into each other, and therefore make for a *really* nice daily driver! Actually, that would be the best input device in the world!

I have an original, I think. I got it as a gift 16 years ago when I left a company I worked for many years ago. I had never heard of it before, but it still works great after all these years. It has no fancy RGB lights and not even stickers on the keys. It is completely blank. I love it and I am glad they are still making great keyboards.

I don't do Insta, but good luck on the move. I've got a somewhat generic mechanical keyboard that is still going after two years.

Most likely it will be going after 13 more years =) I have membrane keyboards 25 years old, and they still work theoretically =)))

My #keyboard question is whether Das Keyboard offers Mac and/or Chrome layouts, tho' I suspects it's a yes (at least for Mac).
@tekeek3 жыл бұрын
Congrats on the move. Your on my side of the fence (I think). If consider North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas the fence line. My state neighbors yours to the west. I honestly can't think of any #keyboard questions other than do you really like the Das keyboards? Its on the top of my list to get one although other things keep getting in the way. Although, I might be able to swindle my work out of one at least for the office.

(subscribed and followed) A keyboard seems like a simple product, but is how we connect with the digital world through our PCs. Question for Das Keyboard: Is it difficult to keep finding new ways to innovate? What are some questions that the design team asks itself when designing/building a new keyboard model
@JaymieJones3 жыл бұрын
Been a fan of the Das Keyboards since quite a while back. What do you think of the 4Q? It looks pretty epic and seems like it would suit someone like me who has a lot of notifications coming in and spending long hours typing on a keyboard writing software.

Never used a modern mechanical keyboard (but I remember using my mom's typewriter). Can we rearranged the keys for different keyboard arrangements (QWERTY, Dvorak, etc)? Again, never used a mechanical, or even a gaming keyboard, so not sure what to expect outside of some clickity-clacks on the train tracks. Good to see a Nixie notification!

@NixieDoesLinux +1 for the awesome collab idea! I wonder if you can talk them into a NOC keyboard with a larger numeric with hexadecimal entry, & dedicated colon ":" key. Heck, I'd just settle for a keypad like that!

I'd like to know what they think is more important in a #Keyboard Design Form or function, and no shortcutting and saying "both", I know both are important... what I want to know is which is the one you think, even if it is ever so slightly, the more important in making a great keyboard.

I used to live in Cary, NC (1-2 years) as well as just outside St. Louis, MO (6 months). I lived in St. Louis during the 2017 riots/protests and it's famously close to East St. Louis which is basically the Shadowlands from The Lion King. I nearly got run over in downtown STL by some idiot blowing a stop sign. Some a__hole security guard at the STL airport tried to get my car towed for parking in a drop-off parking spot (lines and everything, no signage saying no parking or a fee) for literally 2 whole minutes while I said goodbye to my girlfriend 20 yards away. I was still outside the whole time, too. I still prefer St. Louis to Cary.

@@andrewa7952 Sorry, I keep myself outside of surveillance capitalism as much as I can. This yt is the only place where I don't yet, but at least it's not linked to a real person, and I hope that Google didn't do that behind my back, because that would be the absolute outrage.

Agreed, though I used IG before "Suckerberg" well, sucked it up haha. I also am on Keybase and Mastodon and got our own open self hosted forum.. forum.geekbeacon.org/ The problem is nobody uses these except 4 FOSS purists shouting into the ether ... also been trying the same thing in my months long talks with open YT alternatives 🤷♀️ Keeping things open is an uphill battle for creators to be seen

@@NixiePixel I can totall see where you're coming from. I appreciate it that you actually keep those other open channels alive as well, and maybe at some point in time, you'll even be glad you did, if all those walled garden platforms start cutting off all kinds of users that do stuff they don't like on there. (I wonder how the KZbin channels "The Hated One" and "Rob Braxman Tech" see that, but I guess they also have their backups).

I'm curious about what a keyboard design team focuses on when attempting to create a keyboard that stands out in an already saturated market. Are there any real improvements to keyboards now, or is the technology basically the same as it was 10 years ago?
