Good Morning Lindey; good video.. I tried free returns and free shipping for about six months and had multiple returns for the dumbest reasons. I guess for me it would depend upon your business model; the categories you sell in and the size of your business. Like you stated if you are generating $5000 in sales a month maybe having a few returns do not impact your bottom line. However if I am a new seller maybe my business cannot sustain weekly returns at my cost.

I currently sell clothing items, I do not except free returns. I haven't had any returns over the years until recently it seems like everybody is wanting to return for some piddly reason, and I think in my humble opinion if I offered free returns it would only get worse. So as of now no if it slows down the returns, maybe later but no not now. And yes I am a top rated seller.

See thats interesting because Im a very small seller right now so I feel like I can’t afford returns but for someone like you that has the leverage of being a top rated seller Im surprised you wouldn’t do it. I guess since that you’re a top rated seller instead of top rated plus you don’t have the same perks as what she was talking about?

I think prob bc of financial hardships due to covid. I sell clothing too and I’m not about to offer free returns or returns at all :)

Yes, I do free returns. The best part of it is the higher level of seller protection. I've had a couple negs removed this past year that was unwarranted. Like you said, if you have free returns, then there is no reason for someone to open cases or neg you because they aren't losing out on money. Now I won't say that free returns works for everyone. If you sell in a category where returns are low or nonexistent, then you really lose hardly nothing by doing free returns, you may actually gain in the long run. The 10% off of fees that you get will pretty much break you even. But if you sell in a really high return category or you regularly sell items that are heavy where shipping is crazy, then I would not recommend free returns. The 10% off fee may not be worth it if your losing hundreds of dollars a week on returns. It all depends on what you sell and if it is worth it. Everyone has to figure it out for themselves and their business model.

I accept returns but not free returns. A lot of things I sell are drug store type items. If someone buys shampoo, wants to return it b/c they don't like it, it's no longer a new product and I can't sell a used product like that. I would rather have the option to say please don't return it, just toss it and refund, rather than go to more to more expense paying return shipping on a product I can not resell.

I still hesitate to do free returns for your #1 con reason why. I sell a lot of clothing/shoes and I sell heavy items like cast iron that costs $10-20 to ship. Although my returns are reasonable, I can't imagine having to pay the return label on some of my heavy items or on clothes & shoes (also more expensive to ship)! I do have it on some items like books and thus far, I haven't had to deal with it. Knock on wood! Thanks. One more thing....many sellers in the cast iron skillet category do not offer returns at all whereas I at least offer 30 day buyer paid returns. I do like maybe changing it to 60 day buyer returns and see how that goes. If nothing else, it could help me in search.

Loved this video. It absolutely doesn’t concern me at all. I have few items on eBay and approx 400 on Poshmark. But, because you made this info plain and simple to understand, those listeners that have Stores on eBay should b3 carefully listening to your point of view. My first thoughts were is that crazy??? Thank you for making this definitely beneficial to store owners..... bite the bullet and get better standing because of it! I’m soooo bad at selling on eBay. To me the big variables are how much your shipping costs compared to how much your items sell for (which changes how many free shipping labels that fee discount pays for), and how likely your items are to be "rented". Some sellers it makes a ton of sense, others it definitely doesn't.

It all depends on your business , i sell antiques and there is not much competition, also my items are a bit bulky so it will be a lot for me to ship back for free

One major pro/cons (could go either way) that was left out of this video is that ebay weights your returns percentage in categories you sold items in. I know Lindey said her's stayed low, however if your seller service metrics hit Very High based off your (unknown) peers in an category ebay will charge you additional fees. Ebay current only tracks "Item not as described" and "Item not received" metrics. Those metrics cover alot of options that your buy can pick when returning an item. If you dont sell 400 item every 3 months your seller metrics are only evaluated once a year so be very mindful of this.

I have 30 day free returns . I have not noticed an increase in returns I feel like it gives buyers confidence I stand behind my product .

My problem is I am not a gambler and hesitate on things like this. However, I have committed to being open to more risk taking on Ebay so I will try the 30 day free return for a few months. My first case from BULQ arrives tomorrow. So excited.

I am an ebay seller and i always look for the top rated seller note when making purchases. However, i have my free shipping off in my store. After watching this i am going to change it and try out the difference. I get positivefeedback, so I'm not too concerned abouthigh return rate. I'd like to have that top rated symbol. And i had NO idea about that 10% invoice return! Thanks!

My ebay store is top rated, as of now I only accept 14-Day Free returns. I haven't had any returns this year yet. Ive sold a little over 100 items. But now I am changing my ebay to a party supplies store so I might change it to 30-60.

I have never been ask if someone could return something, thankfully, but it does say on the app no returns at the bottom, i recently removed (no returns and no refunds) from the description box since one of my parcels apparently never turned up

I’m all about the extra discount. As soon as I found out about top rated seller plus I was on it. I only do 30 days. When you went to 60 days did you notice an influx of sales? I know they say it helps rank better. But I’m curious if you noticed anything. Oh at the very end you answered my question. Haha

I do 30 day free returns. Returns stayed the same about .5%. Well worth offering to customers. I sell clothing and comics.

I’m happy you feel like that. It’s good to work hard for being n awesome seller. But I bought from top sellers n got crap stuff , packing then a seller that’s just sells. I do 30 day free returns and I also feel it helps. I'm have a garage sale type of store I have only been selling for a year and I'm profiting over a hundred a day NET. Yes I hustle my but off but I do feel my top rated plus is a key factor in my success

Another benefit of offering free returns is you can deduct an amount off the refund. If you don't offer free returns, you can't do that.

Free returns are a win win if you can make your customers happy while allowing your business to thrive. It requires a more complex business model. If you're just selling a few personal things, or trying to get by temporarily, you're probably selling cheap and expect to be off ebay soon and forget about it, then free returns would just eat your profit and cause a hassle. Ebay has the reputation of being an online garage sale, so they should first and foremost respect sellers with the simple business model. It's great that people do reselling fulltime, and then you should work on a long term business model that is sustainable. You, as a seller, should respect yourself and not jump through eBay's hoops. (Don't offer free returns unless it benefits you)

I new seller of hardgoods: ceramics. glass, collectables currently do not except returns. What options do i have as a seller if I take returns and the item come back damage?

With free returns you have the ability to do a partial refund if there is damage or dispute the refund all together if the items is damaged. However if the item is damaged during shipping you would have to refund the buyer and submit a claim to postage insurance to be reimbursed

If an item comes different from Original you can lower the amount refunded, since the item is now basically open box or worse used, so that lowers the value.

I would rate your video Top Rated + if I could not just give u 1 like :) My only issue is I ship heavy items sometimes (printers for example), my losses will be so high that no credit can cover my costs, plus I am in Canada selling locally & worldwide, so shipping is waaay more expensive than USA, and I don’t think eBay credit considers the difference! Another point is do I get + status if not all my listings are free returns (eg heavy not free, light free return)?

Do you have to have free returns on EVERY item, or can you turn it off for some items (I.e., heavy items), and still get the higher rating? Thanks for the great content!

It does not need to be on every item. You can be top rated plus on some items and not on others :) you can select the return policy on each listing to reflect buyer paid returns or seller paid.

I offer free return shipping for 30 days. I find that 99.9% of the time, if they return it, they apologize in the notes section, as if they are very aware I am paying for it! :)

I am top rated - selling in a competitive category - yes top rated makes a big difference - returns happen frequently - selling 150 items a week. That dreaded return notification sound makes my skin crawl

Have you ever got a negative feedback and free return on an item they claim it didn't work? I did 🤣🤣 so now I'm out shipping both ways and have my first negative score that eBay refuses to remove because "that's the buyers right to do" .... I'm not done fighting with ebay on this one

How do you become Top Rated Plus? I am already a Top Rated Seller now for about 6 months and I have always offered free 30 day returns. Based on Ebay rules that qualifies. Not sure how long or what metrics they use to bump me up. Any suggestions or ideas? Should I just call Ebay and ask for it?

Is the option available to just refund and not return? If someone buys personal care, uses it and wants to return it I don't want to pay for a label to get it back and throw it away. I rather just refund and be done.

Yes! Once they request a return you are notified then you can opt to just refund immediately without having to pay for the label.

I'm going through this right now I had a hundred percent positive feedback until somebody bought a basket from me which was clearly stated the size in the listing they gave me a negative feedback saying the basket was too small I contacted eBay twice they will not remove the mark so I'm not sure I can agree with what you're saying about this and I am a eBay top rated seller and I guarantee free shipping. I'm not a top rated seller plus just regular top rated seller. What say you? I'm sorry I'm on my wrong KZbin channel my eBay stores Ohio flips

Just had a similar experience. Buyer left negative feedback for wash wear on a shirt. I stated wash wear in the description and have free returns. But ebay wouldn't remove my negative feedback 😡

So Ebay sent out an email when they started this explaining sellers are still protected on free returns. If a buyer returns an item listed with free returns for buyers remorse or no legit reason then you do not refund the shipping cost when item is returned and Ebay will 100% support you. Contact ebay and ask you are still covered with free returns. It's happened to me 3 times this year and Ebay 100% covered me. Fyi

That doesn't really sound like free returns then. That sounds like just accepting returns where the buyers pays shipping which is what we all used to have before the free returns started.

@@vickieclark5931 exactly, it is the same only I've found the buy will message you and say like, these dont fit or I've changed my mind. They can return the item but you are in control of the amount you refund them and Ebay will agree with the seller as buyers remorse is a seller protected area. Also if they claim the item is damaged and it is not, you can contact Ebay and they will back you on the non shipping cost of the return. Sellers have way more rights than they realize just most will not take the time to challenge returns.

Yes! You don’t have to do free shipping to the buyer. You can charge for shipping and still be top rated plus :)

If you give accurate and complete descriptions of your items. You should feel safe offering free returns. Seldom will someone return. I have had maybe 2 in 5 years. It is UP TO YOU, and your descriptions. #1 don't sell questionable items or anything with issues you don't describe. #2 Be complete and accurate with your pics and descriptions. #3 Take your measurements, and put in the description *SEE MEASUREMENTS TO AVOID UNNECESSARY RETURNS. You put that in the description and people will make sure the item fits them. And will feel less likely to return it because it will be there fault if you were accurate. And if you take good and complete pictures. The measurements are the only reason someone would return. I also do not offer free returns on High priced shipping items. You follow these rules and you will keep your returns to almost none. And the few you get , wont be enough to stop you from continuing to offer it. On the other hand. If your one of those who likes to list fast with a few pictures and not put a lot into it. Don't offer free returns. You will miss something or some information that the buyer didn't know about.

I do buyer paid shipping and free returns. I can't afford to do free each way, and it doesn't seem fair for the buyer to pay both ways, so that's my compromise. I'm a pretty sporadic seller and I've only had 3 returns in 2 years. One was a 10K gold charm that "It didn't work with the plan I had. One was for aquarium cling decorations "Changed my mind." One was for a needlepoint kit that "I didn't realize it needed to be put together." Two have since resold and stuck, so it's all good. I switched from 30 to 60-day returns in the last couple of weeks, so I can't give an opinion on that, yet.

I'm here a year later watching this video again because I am dumbfounded at ebay's response to my question. I charge shipping and offer free 30 day returns. Ebay has told me I have to refund the original shipping cost as long as item is returned in same condition plus cover the cost of return shipping. Very unfair.

It is 100% false that eBay will remove your negative feedbacks if you offer free returns!!! In fact when you email ebay they send you an annoying email saying that the buyer is entitled to an opinion. Then you call eBay and fight with them over the phone and you probably lose your appeal 70% of the time. So Free Returns will get you nothing as far as feedback is concerned.

Do not use free returns and I wont. If buyer returns an item damaged, under this policy, you STILL have to give them 50% of their money back for a now unsalable item. Although only 50%, They get their money, my item goes in the trash. I am then out not only the product, but time and shipping costs in both directions, as I offer free shipping. Until eBay starts requiring buyers to Prove they did not get what they ordered, or the how the item was NAD, I will not do free returns. I believe this is fine for those with small low priced items. But I sell some items in the hundreds of dollars. Not worth the risk. I have ALWAYS worked with my customers and if they are not happy, and I have no issue in taking the item back and refunding, as long as it is in resalable condition. Always. Even if they just don't like it. Frankly, I am tired of hearing , "This is what Amazon Does" , This is how "So and So Does" Dont Care. eBay is not Amazon or anyone else. eBay needs to work on making this a fair marketplace for both buyers and sellers. Ebay force free return i had a buyer bid on my item recieved it felt he paid to much. He sent me a email saying he panic durning cornvarious and out bid everyone else for my item by $50. So that's the reason he said for return he paid to much, so he shipped the item back on his own, ebay gave him a refund soon as post office delivered the item. Later ebay took the shipping money out my account too. I have NO RETURNS on my page. But yet I was still charged for the return

There is no such thing as Free returns. It should be called Sellers Pays All. You can still get negative feedback that will NOT be removed if the buyer says you did not describe the item correctly. They can say there is a scratch that you did not point out or the color is not blue enough. Ebay The Beast will NOT remove this negative feedback because it is the buyers experience with you. You made them sad. Perks??? LOL! Don't be silly. These are not perks but tricks or gimmicks.
