This is a cool find, if anyone is curious I think the connectors are U.FL. You will probably need a U.FL to SMA connector, try and keep your router near the antenna as I believe the longer the cable the weaker the signal is going to get. Keep it up AZ, you are close to 100k! This channel always has good vibes, he's always positive. I don't even own an RV, just a Promaster with 600ah, 1000w solar, and a mini split underneath, it does the job for now.

👍 Yep, that heat buildup in skylights can be trouble. The large Heki skylights on many Winnebago's will crack if air is blocked from below. That's a first for me with a fan though. Good video on the wiring, all information is welcome.

A use-case for the wifi antenna - imagine you have weak cell reception, but your modem works well using the Winegard antennas. Your cell phone would still have poor reception - but you can enable "wifi calling", which will allow you to send and receive calls over the Internet, usually seemlessly (you don't even notice). This takes advantages of the modems better signal, even when you're a few yards outside of the coach.
@ItsMeGigaАй бұрын
Nerd here. I think it would be important to note that the 360+ cell antennas are only TECHNICALLY rated for 4g/LTE and not 5g so you'd probably get slower speeds BUT an external antenna will almost always get better signal than the small little antennas internal to the unit. The 360+ would be an excellent option if you have peplink br1 which uses LTE and can do wifi bridging (ie connecting to a Campground's wifi)

My new unit came with a Travlfi router and it utilizes those antennas already. And the factory mounted it above a cabinet so I could easily switch out for any modem in the future. 👍

Thanks for the great tip on the "internals" (cell antenna) of that Winegard! You have the oldest T-Mobile Home modem/router there (Nokia "silver trash can")...if you talk nice to a T-Mobile phone rep. or T-Mobile store sales person they will usually let you upgrade to the newest modem that has external antenna connectors built in (Arcadyan TMO-G4AR, "Nater Tater has multiple videos on this new modem). Complaining about your upload/download speeds will help with your "I need a newer modem with external antenna ports" argument...the old Nokia round modem is missing one frequency band of 5g capability. Just be aware that there is "scuttlebutt/rumors" that T-Mobile has started enforcing the "must keep the modem at one address/zip code" rule (very bad for RV users), otherwise they start charging something like $120./mo. for a "mobile use -plan"!

It was a real PITA to find those cables in the ceiling. The ceiling cap only had a 12VDC/ ground combo loop attached. After carefully feeling around with my finger i was able to locate 1 and then 2 wires. Buried in the insulation, they were almost imperceptible, being about the thickness of a piece of fishing wire. Luckily, those were the yellow and green. There's at least 1 more up there but I don't need it. I updated my TMobile gateway to the latest model which has the external antenna connectors. So, im interested to see if there's improvement.

Great insight! I have an older Verizon hotspot device that has 2 antenna ports. I have been using a simple window mounted Netgear MIMO antenna. Would the Winegard improve the signal by virtue of being roof mounted, and does it use the same TS-9 connectors?

I recently replaced my vents with Maxxfan deluxes because I put those stupid insulated pillows and it wasn’t even summer and they warped my vent making the blades hit, those things are trash! Maybe they are good for the winter for heat but if any sun hits them watch out
@peckerpeter2078Ай бұрын
Can’t use cheap ass plastic that releases chemicals when exposed to hot sun. Melting like that is obviously the wrong material . You need those insulators to keep out the heat in the summer and keep the heat in during the winter… Manufactures are making cutbacks using thinner, substandard materials!

Don't use a T mobile or Verizon router. I install a Travelfi router with a virtual sim card where the Winegard would go. Only need adapters for the leads to attach to the router. You can start and stop your service as often as you want and you can upgrade to a higher Gig program whenever needed. Has worked well for us even in campgrounds where others we know have had difficult reception.
@lyfandethАй бұрын
Wifi now uses 3 frequencies, so it needs a minimum of 3 antennas. More (8) whem MIMO power boosting is used. Cell used to need 3 frequencies. With the new Starlink frequency, it will need 4. And a 6" antenna will work, but a ~2' antenna doubles connection strength. So, what you suggest is obsolete, and between what's here now and what's coming--I would waste time on the Winegard now. Not unless you want 2010 communications quality.
@AZExpertАй бұрын
I just suggested using an antenna that most modern RVs already have for very low cost which is already mounted on the roof. Many RVers are unaware that they have something that will suit their needs for 90% of the time at little cost. The upload speed I was seeing was ~550mbps download with ~50 mbps upload which is better than my wired home internet provider.

I bought my class A used (2020) and from Arizona. My center line ceiling vent cover was practically disintegrated by the sun but oddly my side bathroom one was not. Could be because the previous owner used the same vent pillow for insulation as you did on the centerline but not the bathroom. Or could it be placement and more radiated heat around it from the roof top when baking in the AZ sun? Both of mine were black.
