Beautiful food forest. I’m surprised the deer are not jumping that fence.
@rednande Жыл бұрын
I've tried to keep the deer out, so they don't know the good stuff is in there. So far they have been walking by it. Chased 4 away yesterday. But if they want, they will be able to jump it. I was told by Ryan they clear his 8 foot fence, so 5 foot is easier for me to work on, they didn't offer a 6 foot .

I love it! A question about bananas. We had both a cavendish and a dwarf cavendish put out arms around September-October. The bananas were not fattening, nor ripening. Then we had a bad freeze for two nights in late December. (I live in Brooksville). The trees looked dead, so I removed the arms, as skinny as they were, and hung them in the garage. I did not expect them to fatten, but maybe to yellow. Instead, they just turned black and rotted. What should I have done?
@fortmyersfruitforest5214 Жыл бұрын
Avoid the freeze at all cost, bananas need to reach a certain size\maturity before being cut from the plant. Maybe try growing in a large container and overwintering in cold protected area?

Yo Pete At about the 9:38 mark, you added some type of mold or something really fast. What is it? We have something similar here in Hawaii that everbody calls dog vomit mold. Mine seems to pop up after I fertilize and mulch.

The term "Food Forrest" is an even more hilarious gardening term than "permaculture".
@d.j.9305 Жыл бұрын
Why?
@yoholmes273 Жыл бұрын
@D. J. These are mere marketing tools designed to enthrall & sell. "Permaculture" spawning from the very audacity that an environment may be permanent. 'Food Forrest' ...as cute & cool as that term implies is , in fact, one of the most inefficient ways to grow edible crops. But hey, those terms sound cool & people like them so .......

@@yoholmes273- the efficiency of monocultures results from either tons of labor or mechanical planting, weeding and harvesting which requires diesel and expensive inputs, and doesn't lend itself well to an existing canopy. The "efficiency" of the elimination of biodiversity is overrated and based on flawed presumptions that exclude many benefits like resilience and a varied diet, not to mention aesthetics.
