In 1995, a significant protest led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo galvanized over 100,000 citizens in a powerful display of dissent against the ruling Rawlings administration. The demonstration arose in response to soaring living costs, the controversial introduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on essential goods, and widespread discontent regarding government policies. As citizens from all walks of life came together, the protest not only highlighted the urgent economic challenges faced by Ghanaians but also marked a pivotal moment in Ghana’s political landscape, reinforcing the importance of civic engagement and public accountability in governance.
