I’ve been singing in bands (lead and backup) for 30+ years; classic rock, country, grunge. A good friend of mine who is in a band that plays Rush, Sammy Hagar, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, etc called to tell me they and their long time singer had parted ways and would I be interested in stepping in. I told him I’m pretty sure that stuff is beyond my capabilities to which he replied “just come and jam with us”. I showed up not expecting much of myself but did well enough to earn a second practice with them. I went home and practiced practiced practiced. Then I stumbled across your videos. I began adding your techniques to what I already knew and immediately improved. Long story short, I did three rehearsals with them, then on the 4th week we gigged. Your advice on going smoothly from chest voice to head voice and diaphragm control help me immensely! Okay, I’m gonna say it….we kicked ass. I am now the lead singer of a band I never dreamed I’d be in. I’ll be taking your course soon, can’t thank you enough 🤘

Your story is like so many I get in my KZbin Comments, Wolf. I'm so glad you are getting this opportunity to do what so many wish they could do. It's also great to know that what you learned in my free videos helped you get your foot in the door with this band. So many musicians who took my course just to help with backup singing have ended up being the lead singers of their bands. My course is the REAL DEAL that will give you the information and the exercises to grow your voice into an amazing instrument. Rock on, WOLF!

Seriously, DO THESE daily! In 2017 after a terrible divorce I wanted to start singing out again (I was the lead singer of Outspoken on Lava/Atlantic Records (2002). I hadn't sang a whole set in 15 years. After dedicating myself to doing just these simple exercises, I went from barely being able to make it through 3 hard songs to now singing 4 sets a night again and still having some juice left at the end of the night. These WORK magic! Thank you Ken for sharing with us, you helped bring redemption to my lost voice!

I've been watching your free videos for about 7 months, my voice has improved dramatically, i have no words to describe it. A year ago the only way I could sing an F#4 was in head voice, but after following your recommendations 20 mins a day everyday, I can hit an F#4 with relative ease in chest. Thank you Ken, GOD BLESS YOU. When I am able to sing a complete song I will record myself and show you how much better I got with your free advice. If there is any vocal coach that is real, it's Ken Tamplin.

J, you know from personal experience that even just the free videos I post can help you to become a better singer. If the free lessons can help you that much, just think what my full course can do for someone's voice. There is a lifetime of hard-earned information in my course. It took me about 30 years to come up with the information that's in my course, and I share a lot of that on these free videos. There is much more to learn in my course, and it's all top-notch information that will give you results. Thank you for sharing your experience from following my instructions, J. God Bless You, too! I'm glad I could help you! :-)

I appreciate your generosity and expertise! I am a single parent of a child with special needs and singing and guitar are my saving grace. I wish to perform and write, the tools you give freely are the best! I've been watching you tube vocal tutorials about 3 years now, you are at the top of my best of the best list! The main reason I began looking up vocal videos is because my 13 yo child still can not speak, traditional Therapy has not worked, she has a great voice and can belt vowels so, it's not like she doesn't have a voice. So I figured I would educate myself about singing and the mechanics thereof etc. What a journey! Thank you sooo much for all the details and the vocabulary etc. you teach.

@chrisisvolpisings6 жыл бұрын
Ken, i'm rapidly loving all your videos day after day. What i find marvelous about this video is what other people call "crazy eyes" which is how you actually open up the mask and lead the harmonics to a brighter sound , not only, you also raise the eyesbrows and slighty overopen the mouth , leading to a perfectly neutral sound, i'm following you and watching all your videos everytime i get the chance!
@kentamplin6 жыл бұрын
You are very perceptive, ChrisIs! So many people want to just laugh, but they don't see what's actually happening. You are spot-on, right on the money. I am opening up the passages into my sinuses, around the eyes and forehead, all over my face. The more exaggerated I do this, the more flow takes place, and resonance follows into the mask. Yes, it does look a little silly, but I exaggerate these things to help the perceptive students get these visual cues to help them. Once you learn it, you don't have to exaggerate it like I do, but you can still get the resonance. And if you want to REALLY turn it on, then make the funny face. It's called the Thespian Mask, like the masks the actors in ancient Greek ampitheaters used to show laughter. That facial posture is most optimal for raising the uvula and opening up the mask resonance and the back of the throat.
@chrisisvolpisings6 жыл бұрын
And yet i discover more from you!! never heard of the Thespian Mask. I'm really willing to purchase your pro pack, i used to sing growl, scream and clean vocals in a band called Ready, Set, Fall and now i sing in a more rock-ish project called Bemore, i feel like i'm stuck with my vocal progression, you are helping me a lot, i'll definitely finalize the purchase!

TIP: For those with very deep voices do this an octave lower at least twice and then do exercise 2 and 3 normal tone twice and THEN do 2, 3 and 4 normal tone once or twice. Hi Ken - Is there a reason why you open your eyes wide when doing these exercises? Does it have something to do with the soft palate? Thanks for all your awesome videos. You are a kind and generous teacher (not to mention incredible singer)!
@kentamplin7 жыл бұрын
When you go up high, you actually can direct the sound into better places for it to resonate. The big smile, with the raised cheeks does help to raise the palate to create more space, and getting the sound to ring even higher in the face is helpful on your highest notes. You don't really have to pop your eyes out, but I tend to give my students visual cues to remind them of what they should be feeling, so I kind of have a habit of cueing when I am teaching one-on-one. I always make that smiley-face to cue my students to smile, and I tend to open the eyes to remind them to feel the sound pinging higher in the mask. If you just remember to bring the sound up very high in the face, as in behind the eyes, you are golden.

How can I avoid to sound raspy and to avoid the mucus to come into my throat? I mean, I sing and I start to sound shaky and I need to clear my throat.. Maybe the support is bad.

I started these exercises in January. After four weeks I can feel that I'm getting better with these. At first, I take about 20 minutes of the first exercise for the whole range. Usually, I can do it from D2 to A4. Sometimes the lowest notes maybe even C#2 or C2. And for time to time at the high-end A#4, B4 and C5 are possible if they are just 'visited'. The second thing to do before the actual singing is to do the exercises on this video. It is obvious that singing feels much flexible now. Still, there is much to do due to the fact that I need even better flexibility for the whole range. E.g. I can sing Billy Joel's Honesty pretty well and for local band purposes it is just fine but Mr. Joel's position as a performer of the song is no way threatened. That is so obvious that maybe I should not even mention him in comparison. I did sing 3 years by 'just training by singing' before I discovered KTVA from here.

OK. Now it seems that I can follow Ken quite well. At first, there were some difficulties with breath but during the last 7 days, the breath seems to be OK in all of those exercises. I have to admit that the latter scales (after the first one which is easy), did cause me some pain to learn but after just four to five weeks they have gone into my memory. The sooner one starts to work with these the better and faster are the results. One may say: Sing better INSTANTLY :).

Hello Mr.Tamplin, could you please make a tutorial on how to create vocal melodies using guitar licks like George Benson and John Mayer doing it?

Ken really reminds me of Jeff Cavaliere because after watching their videos, I always feel motivated. I guess he's the Jeff Cavaliere of singing! LOL
