Machines are a lot safer for some exercises. I use both.

Ah. Although machines can be safer but they usually isolate and are not a compound movements. Circuits that fire together wire together so when don’t use these supporting muscles you are not firing them together. I’m not saying either is better but they are different and the cost is strength.

Totally false, for example. If you take a guy who can bench 315lbs only on a Smith Machine versus a guy who can bench 315lbs with the barbell, the guy that can lift 315lbs with the barbell is also going to be able to bench 315lbs on a Smith machine. The guy who can lift 315 on a Smith machine only is not going to be able to bench 315 on the barbell. There is a big difference from using machines to free weights as the machine is stabilizing you and doing 40 to 50% of the work. While using free weights it's your body and your body only stabilizing and controlling the weight.

Hes talking about building muscle. Being more skillful with stabalising muscles is irrelevant

Good to know for the days the free weight area of the gym is packed, but I'm still going to opt for free weights whenever possible to build stability. That's one thing machines don't do.

You can always use a machine unilaterally and build stability against rotation.

Machines are incredibly boring to use for me though. Especially worn out and questionable ROM ones. Like a lot of decline chest presses you can fill completely with weights and get no training effect.

I believe that but free weights are control and exercise different muscle groups at the same time
