Considering it's fiction, they can do whatever they want, but if time travel to the past was possible in RL, then what Thawne did by traveling back in time would have created what's called a causality loop. Because Mark Hamill is the voice of the Joker in probably about 80% of the DC animated stuff out there. While Hamill has never played the Joker in live-action he’s played him in countless voice acting-based roles like in Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Justice League and even provided the voice for him in 3 of the 4 Batman: Arkham games. Hamill played The Trickster before he got the Joker role in 1992 (for BTAS) in the 1990 Flash TV show, and has really just combined his two similar voices for Trickster (Hamill also did voice work for The Trickster in animated material too) and Joker into one deranged voice that is always impeccably delivered.

I love this episode because while everybody is busy rolling their eyes because of the "cliche" of The Flash pushing himself harder, both physically and metaphysically and shit why not even emotionally, nobody notices the largest plot point of not just this episode but the entire series. Wells is very obviously speaking from personal experience. He's either seen The Flash have the ability to do that and/or has done that himself. Everyone is transfixed on the monitors yet Wells takes his glasses off to be able to focus on the screen. Come on guys.... us diehard Flash fans aren't the only ones that saw the huge plot twist in Season 1.

This scene is the perfect example as to why I prefer Tom's Eobard over Matt's. While Matt's version relied on killing people to be menacing, Tom's version relied on strong dialogue and mystery. Kind of the difference between something written by GRRM or Michael Bay. It's not that I disliked Matt, because he's a good actor too (although not as good as Tom), but the dialogue of Flash S1 Wells and the overall writing was just a lot better than Legends season 2. Don't get me wrong, it was the best season of the Arrowverse after Arrow last year, and that was largely BECAUSE of Matt as RF but Flash season 1 with Tom as RF was just a masterpiece.
