@@JayAnAm it's really hard to work from home with a bad remote network. Our CAD solution crashes a lot without outputting an error dialog or a log file. I use FreeCAD if my output is only a STEP file and not some Customer specific file format. Thank you again for this intro into assemblies.

I've tried, I really have, several times, for days on end, because using free and open software like linux, Krita and Blender is important to me. It just feels better, like I'm more in control. But it's nowhere near usable, only frustrating and demotivating. Simply importing stuff without breaking it is a nightmare, the UX, my brain doing all the heavy lifting converting objects and making sure different modules can work together, it's just too much of a distraction. And the fear that A2plus is going to be superseded by A5plusplus next year, rendering all my previous projects unassembled doesn't really help either. So I dove straight into Fusion (coming from SW), was productive right away and I'm actually having fun. I hate that I love it, but I'm probably going to shell out that $495/year when I really need to, and I've decided to revisit FreeCAD around 2025. They may have had a Blender type growth spurt by then. I'd like to throw some money at the project, but it'd be nice if there was a particular aspect that I could help accelerate. Like an actual integrated assembly workbench that can be trusted to open older projects and doesn't have 2 or more incompatible competitors. They're taking their time to get it right, which is good, but there doesn't seem to be a driving force behind the development, it's done when it's done. 2025, fingers crossed.

Assembly is somewhat advanced topic.What is the point of filling the video with basic stuff of creating simple parts? If someone found this video wanting to learn how to assemble parts, that person knows how to do that already.

Sketch, extrude, sketch, rotate, assemble. Similar to Creo Elements. Just slightly different syntax (commands). sketch, pad, sketch, revolve, A2 extension. Pretty straight forward, Thanks a lot!

How do I do it if I want to make a linear servo out of variuos parts, like it has a rod, bolt holder, casing, and a dc motor, and a few other little pieces, but the linear servo is part of a bigger project (a robotic arm) and I want them all to later be connected so that I can actually move the arm within freecad. How do I organize it all as far as bodies, parts, and all that?

A2plus, at present, has a known bug. After changing a part, A2plus can't solve the assembly. In this example the ring is not fully assembled as only one constraint is used. This is why, in this example, you don't notice the bug..I think.

Hello ! Thanks for that interesting video. You created two parts in two projects and used the import tool in your example. I assume that if the parts in your two projects had been created in two bodies of a single project, the manipulation were also workable ?

How would you export this for slicing? If you just do a regular export, the slicing software (Cura for me) just sees separate parts. It's no longer an assembled product.

I wonder why you absolutely must have external parts in separate files, and not just have several yellow "Parts" item things in only one file.
@JayAnAm

You can do it in both ways, but usually e.g. in companies the workflow is based on files that are made by different people.

@@JayAnAm I tried to do it with two "Parts" objects, but the planeCoincident-Constraint action gives the error: "Could not move some parts. The highlighted parts were not moved. They are not constrained (also over constraint chains) to a fixed part!". On the forum someone said: "A2plus will not work if you apply constraints to part containers and bodies directly in a PartDesign file."

Reusability and version keeping. Your part might evolve as you start making prototypes. Also, you might need to supply your part to a vendor, if you don't have the capability to manufacture in-house.

The ring loaded offset for me as well. To get it to look like the video, within the Assemb_Parts Part_Ring, go to Placement --> Position and set x, y, and z to zero. These are the same attributes that the OP uses to move the ring position down so that he can select the face in the next step.

Two different types of programs for different kinds of shapes and design processes. As a rule of thumb, if you want parametric, mathematically perfect, engineering shapes, go CAD. FreeCAD, openSCAD, Fusion 360, Solidworks etc. For organic and artistic shapes, and fusing/editing large meshes: Blender and other mesh oriented programs.
